🔧 Soul - Side View Mirror Replacement

Replacing your Soul’s side view mirror usually means removing the small inside corner trim (the “sail panel”), unplugging the mirror wiring, and swapping the mirror assembly. This is done when the mirror housing is cracked, the glass won’t adjust, or the mirror is loose after an impact.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Work on a level surface and keep the ignition OFF.
  • ⚠️ Use trim tools (plastic pry tools) to avoid cracking interior panels.
  • ⚠️ Support the mirror with one hand when removing the last nut so it doesn’t fall and chip paint.
  • ⚠️ If your mirror has electrical features (power adjust/heat/turn signal/blind-spot light), unplug connectors gently—don’t pull on wires.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is recommended if you’re worried about shorting a connector: remove the negative terminal first.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" drive ratchet
  • 3" extension (1/4" drive)
  • Torque wrench (in-lb)
  • Phillips #2 screwdriver
  • Plastic trim removal tool set
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Painter’s tape (1" wide)
  • Shop towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Side view mirror assembly (correct side) - Qty: 1
  • Mirror mounting gasket/seal (if not included with mirror) - Qty: 1
  • Door trim panel clips (optional, in case any break) - Qty: 2-6

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
  • Lower the window on the side you’re working on (helps you hold the mirror and prevents accidental lockouts).
  • Apply painter’s tape along the outside edge near the mirror base to protect paint.
  • If disconnecting the battery: use a 10mm socket to remove the negative terminal and isolate it so it can’t spring back.
  • A trim removal tool is a plastic pry tool used to pop panels loose without damage.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the inner sail panel

  • At the inside front top corner of the door (by the mirror), locate the small triangular trim cover.
  • Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry the sail panel outward and release the clips.
  • Pull it away and set it aside on a shop towel. Pry close to clips to avoid bending.

Step 2: Disconnect the mirror wiring

  • Behind the sail panel, find the mirror electrical connector.
  • Press the connector lock and unplug it by hand; use needle-nose pliers only if needed to help press the tab (do not pull on wires).
  • If there’s a wiring clip holding the harness, release it using the trim removal tool.

Step 3: Remove the mirror mounting nuts

  • Hold the mirror from the outside with one hand.
  • Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 3" extension to remove the three mounting nuts.
  • Keep the nuts if your new mirror does not include replacements.

Step 4: Remove the mirror assembly

  • Feed the wiring connector and harness through the hole as you lift the mirror off the door.
  • Remove any old gasket material and wipe the mounting area using a shop towel.

Step 5: Install the new mirror

  • Confirm the new mirror’s connector and mounting studs match the original before mounting.
  • Guide the wiring through the door hole and seat the mirror/gasket flush against the door.
  • Start all three nuts by hand to prevent cross-threading.

Step 6: Torque the mirror nuts

  • Use a torque wrench (in-lb) with a 10mm socket to tighten the three nuts evenly.
  • Torque to 80-95 in-lb (9-11 Nm).

Step 7: Reconnect wiring and reinstall the sail panel

  • Plug the mirror connector back in until it clicks (push on the connector body, not the wires).
  • Reattach any harness clips using the trim removal tool.
  • Align the sail panel clips and press it in firmly by hand until it snaps into place.

Step 8 (If the connector is not accessible): Remove the door panel to reach the plug

  • Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove visible screws in the pull handle/trim areas (locations vary slightly).
  • Use a plastic trim removal tool set to pop the door panel clips around the edges.
  • Lift the panel upward to unhook it, then unplug electrical connectors by hand.
  • Complete Steps 2-7, then reinstall the door panel by hanging it first and snapping clips back in.

âś… After Repair

  • Remove the painter’s tape and check mirror alignment and door paint around the base.
  • Turn ignition ON and test mirror functions: power adjust, heat, turn signal, and any warning indicators (if equipped).
  • Road-test briefly and listen for wind noise; if present, re-check that the gasket is seated flat and nuts are torqued evenly.
  • If you disconnected the battery, reset the clock and confirm radio presets as needed.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: ₹4,000-₹12,000 (parts + labor, varies by mirror options/paint)
