🔧 Corolla - Side View Mirror Replacement

This repair replaces the door-mounted mirror assembly, which usually includes the mirror housing, glass, and internal motor connections. On your Corolla, the job is straightforward, but you need to handle the door trim carefully so you do not break clips or damage the wiring connector.

Assumption: This is for a power side mirror assembly on one side of the vehicle.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 1-2 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Work with the ignition OFF and the key removed.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable if the mirror has power adjustment, heating, or turn signal wiring.
  • Support the mirror with one hand when removing the last fastener so it does not fall.
  • Be careful around the door panel clips; they can snap easily.
  • Do not pry on painted surfaces with bare metal tools.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Small extension
  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Torx T20 screwdriver
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Protective gloves
  • Safety glasses

  • Mirror mounting nuts - Qty: 3
  • Door panel clip set - Qty: 1 set

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Lower the window glass on the door you are working on.
  • Turn the ignition OFF.
  • If equipped with power mirror wiring, disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Have a small container ready for screws and clips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the interior mirror trim

  • Use a trim panel removal tool to carefully pop off the small triangle trim cover at the front upper corner of the door.
  • If there is a screw behind the cover, remove it with a Phillips screwdriver.
  • Pull straight out to avoid broken clips.

Step 2: Disconnect the mirror wiring

  • Pull the trim away enough to reach the mirror connector.
  • Press the tab and unplug the connector by hand.
  • If the connector is tight, use needle-nose pliers gently on the plug body, not the wires.

Step 3: Remove the mirror mounting nuts

  • Use a 10mm socket, ratchet, and small extension to remove the 3 mirror nuts.
  • Hold the mirror from the outside as you remove the last nut.
  • Torque on installation: 8 Nm (71 in-lbs)

Step 4: Remove the old mirror

  • Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door.
  • Remove the old foam seal if it stays stuck to the door.
  • Clean the mounting surface with a dry cloth.

Step 5: Install the new mirror

  • Position the new mirror assembly in the door opening.
  • Feed the wiring connector through and align the studs with the holes.
  • Install the 3 mounting nuts finger-tight first.
  • Use the 10mm socket and ratchet to tighten the nuts evenly.
  • Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs)

Step 6: Reconnect wiring and reassemble the trim

  • Plug the mirror connector back in until it clicks.
  • Reinstall the triangle trim cover.
  • If a screw was removed, reinstall it with the Phillips screwdriver.
  • Press the trim fully into place by hand.

Step 7: Test the mirror

  • Reconnect the negative battery cable if it was disconnected.
  • Turn the ignition ON and test mirror adjustment.
  • If equipped, test heating and signal function.
  • Check that the mirror sits flush and does not wobble.

✅ After Repair

  • Verify the mirror moves in all directions.
  • Check for wind noise while driving.
  • Confirm the door trim is seated correctly.
  • If the mirror has a blind spot indicator or turn signal, make sure it works.
