š§ Pathfinder - Side View Mirror Replacement
Replacing your Pathfinderās side view mirror usually means removing the inside door trim, unplugging the mirror wiring, and swapping the mirror assembly. This is done when the mirror glass/turn signal/heater stops working, the housing is broken, or the mirror is loose after an impact.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1.0-2.0 hours (per side)
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Turn the ignition OFF and keep the key away from the vehicle.
- ā ļø If your Pathfinder has side-impact airbags in the door, avoid pulling/yanking on wiring and connectors.
- ā ļø Wear safety glasses; door trim clips can pop loose suddenly.
- ā ļø Battery disconnect is recommended if youāll be disconnecting multiple door connectors: use a 10mm socket to remove the negative terminal and wait 3 minutes before working near airbag wiring.

šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Assumption: This procedure covers the common powered mirror on your Pathfinder (with possible heat/turn-signal/puddle lamp). Connector count may vary, but the mounting method is the same.
Step 1: Remove the inner sail panel (mirror trim)
- At the top-front corner of the door (inside), use a trim removal tool set (plastic) to pry off the small triangular trim piece (the āsail panel,ā the cover by the mirror).
- If it has a small tweeter speaker, unplug it by pressing the tab with a pick tool and pulling straight out.
Step 2: Remove the door switch panel
- Use a trim removal tool set (plastic) to lift the window/lock switch panel from the armrest.
- Unplug the connectors by pressing the locking tabs (use a pick tool if needed). A locking tab is a small clip you press to release the plug.
Step 3: Remove door pull/handle screws
- Look for screw covers behind the interior handle and/or inside the pull pocket.
- Pop covers off with a pick tool, then remove screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
Step 4: Remove the door trim panel
- Starting at the bottom edge, slide a trim removal tool set (plastic) between the panel and door and pop the clips loose.
- Work around the sides until the panel is free, then lift the whole panel upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
- Support the panel with one hand and unplug any remaining connectors using a pick tool as needed.
- If equipped with a cable-style inner handle link, release it carefully; use needle-nose pliers only if necessary and do not bend the cable.
- Donāt pull hardāclips break easily.
Step 5: Peel back the water shield (vapor barrier)
- Near the mirror area, carefully peel back the plastic water shield enough to access the mirror mounting studs.
- Use a clean microfiber towel to keep the sticky butyl adhesive clean.
Step 6: Unplug the mirror connector
- Find the mirror wiring connector near the front of the door and unplug it by pressing the tab with a pick tool.
Step 7: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Hold the mirror on the outside with one hand so it doesnāt fall.
- Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" extension (1/4" drive) to remove the three mounting nuts.
- Remove the mirror assembly from the outside.
Step 8: Install the new mirror
- Make sure the mounting gasket is seated flat (no folds) against the door.
- Feed the mirror harness through the opening and set the mirror onto the studs.
- Thread the nuts on by hand first (prevents cross-threading).
- Tighten with a 10mm socket snugly, then final-tighten using a torque wrench: Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs).
- Hand-start all nuts before tightening.
Step 9: Reconnect wiring and quick-function check
- Plug the mirror connector back in until it clicks.
- If you disconnected the battery, reconnect the negative terminal using a 10mm socket (snug, do not over-tighten).
- Turn ignition ON and test mirror adjust, heat (if equipped), turn signal/puddle lamp (if equipped).
Step 10: Reinstall the water shield and door panel
- Press the water shield back into the butyl adhesive all the way around.
- Reconnect all door electrical connectors.
- Hang the door panel on the top lip first, then press clips in around the edges using your hands.
- Reinstall screws with a Phillips #2 screwdriver, then reinstall any screw covers using a trim removal tool set (plastic).
- Reinstall the switch panel and snap it in place.
- Reinstall the sail panel and reconnect the tweeter if equipped.
ā After Repair
- Confirm mirror is solid (no wobble) by gently pushing on the housing.
- Test: window switch, door locks, and inside handle operation.
- Check for wind noise on a short drive; if present, re-seat the mirror gasket and confirm nuts are torqued correctly.
- If any door clips broke, replace them to prevent rattles.
