🔧 Town & Country - Side View Mirror Replacement
You’ll remove the inside door trim, unplug the mirror wiring, unbolt the mirror, and bolt the new one on. This is straightforward, but you must work carefully around the door’s side airbag wiring and trim clips.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1.0-2.0 hours (per side)
Assumption: your mirror is power and may include heat/turn-signal; steps cover all.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Disconnect the negative battery cable before unplugging door wiring to reduce airbag (SRS) risk.
- ⚠️ Do not probe yellow connectors; yellow usually indicates airbag circuits.
- ⚠️ Support the mirror with one hand when removing the last nut so it doesn’t fall and chip paint.
- ⚠️ Work on a level surface with the ignition OFF and key away from the vehicle.

- Mirror mounting gasket/seal - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
- Lower the window glass fully so you can handle the door panel easier.
- Use 10mm wrench to disconnect the negative battery terminal; wait 2 minutes before touching door connectors.
- Apply painters tape along the door edge near the mirror to protect paint.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the mirror sail panel (triangle trim)
- Use the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently pry off the small triangular trim at the front top corner of the door (inside).
- If it feels stuck, use the small flat screwdriver to start a tiny gap, then switch back to the plastic tool. Pry slowly to avoid cracking.
Step 2: Remove the door handle trim and fasteners
- Look for a screw behind/near the inside door handle trim area.
- Use a small flat screwdriver or pick tool (specialty) to lift any small cover caps.
- Remove exposed screws using the Phillips screwdriver #2.
- Place screws in the magnetic parts tray.
Step 3: Remove the door panel fasteners
- Check the armrest/pull-handle area for additional screws.
- Remove any bolts found using the 1/4" drive ratchet with 10mm socket and 6" extension for 1/4" drive ratchet.
Step 4: Release the door panel clips
- Starting at the bottom edge, slide the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) between the panel and door and pop the clips free one-by-one.
- Work your way around the sides. Firm pulls—don’t yank.
Step 5: Lift the door panel up and disconnect wiring
- Lift the whole door panel straight upward to unhook it from the top window ledge.
- Support the panel and unplug connectors (window switch, courtesy light, etc.). Use the flashlight to see lock tabs.
- If equipped, unplug the door handle cable by releasing the clip carefully using the pick tool (specialty).
- Don’t pull on wires—pull on connectors.
Step 6: Locate and unplug the mirror connector
- Behind the sail panel area, find the mirror wiring connector.
- Press the lock tab and unplug it by hand (use the small flat screwdriver only if needed).
Step 7: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- Hold the mirror on the outside with one hand.
- Remove the mirror mounting nuts using the 1/4" drive ratchet, 10mm socket, and 6" extension for 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Set nuts aside in the magnetic parts tray.
Step 8: Remove the old mirror and transfer parts (if needed)
- Pull the mirror away from the door and guide the harness through the opening.
- If your replacement mirror does not include a gasket/seal, transfer the old gasket if it’s undamaged; otherwise install the new mirror mounting gasket/seal.
Step 9: Install the new mirror
- Feed the mirror harness through the door opening and set the mirror onto the mounting studs.
- Start all nuts by hand to avoid cross-threading.
- Tighten the nuts evenly using the 1/4" drive ratchet with 10mm socket.
- Final tighten with the torque wrench (inch-pound): Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
Step 10: Reconnect the mirror connector and reassemble the door panel
- Plug the mirror connector back in until it clicks.
- Reconnect all door panel electrical connectors and the handle cable (if removed).
- Hang the door panel on the top window ledge and press downward to seat it.
- Press around the perimeter to snap all clips back in place.
- Reinstall screws using the Phillips screwdriver #2 and any bolts using the 1/4" drive ratchet with 10mm socket.
- Reinstall the sail panel by pressing it in by hand until fully seated.
Step 11: Reconnect the battery
- Reconnect the negative battery cable using the 10mm wrench.
âś… After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and test mirror movement (up/down/left/right).
- If equipped, test mirror heat (defrost) and turn-signal indicator.
- Verify the glass is stable (no shaking) and the mirror sits flush to the door.
- Check for rattles: gently push around the door panel edges to confirm clips are seated.
- If an airbag/SRS light turns on, stop driving and have it scanned immediately.
