🔧 Rogue - Side View Mirror Replacement
You’ll be removing the old mirror assembly from the door and installing a new one, then reconnecting the wiring so power functions work correctly. This involves working around the interior trim by the front corner of the window and accessing three mounting nuts.
Difficulty Level: Beginner/Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1–1.5 hours per side
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Disconnect the negative battery cable before working on any powered mirror to avoid short circuits.
- ⚠️ Be careful around the side curtain airbag area near the top of the door; do not poke tools deep into the trim.
- ⚠️ Support the mirror with one hand when removing the last nut so it doesn’t drop and damage the door or paint.
- ⚠️ Work with the window fully closed so the glass is protected from tools and falling parts.
- ⚠️ Use plastic trim tools instead of metal screwdrivers on interior panels to avoid cracks and scratches.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 🛠️ 10mm socket
- 🛠️ 1/4" drive ratchet
- 🛠️ 1/4" drive extension (3–6")
- 🛠️ Phillips #2 screwdriver
- 🛠️ Flathead screwdriver (small)

- 🛠️ Needle-nose pliers
- 🛠️ Torque wrench (inch-pound or low-range ft-lb)
- 🛠️ Shop light or headlamp
- 🛠️ Mechanic gloves
- 🛠️ Safety glasses
- 🛠️ Masking tape
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- 🔩 Complete side view mirror assembly (power, heated, options to match) - Qty: 1 per side
- 🔩 Mirror mounting nuts (10mm, if not included with mirror) - Qty: 3 per side
- 🔩 Door mirror inner sail panel clips - Qty: 2–3 per side
- 🔩 Door panel push clips - Qty: 4–6 (optional, in case some break)
- 🔩 Butyl sealing strip or foam tape - Qty: as needed (for resealing mirror area if original seal is damaged)
📋 Before You Begin
- Park the Rogue on level ground, engage the parking brake, and switch ignition OFF.
- Close the window on the side you’re working on.
- Open that door fully so you have room to work.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket and move the cable aside so it cannot spring back.
- Apply masking tape along the edge of the mirror base and door paint to protect from accidental scratches.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the interior mirror sail panel
- The “sail panel” is the small triangular trim piece inside the door at the front corner of the window.
- Use a plastic trim removal tool to gently pry along the top edge of the sail panel where it meets the door frame.
- Work around the edges until the clips pop free; pull the panel straight toward you, not sideways, to avoid breaking the clips.
- If there is a small speaker (tweeter) in the panel, disconnect its electrical connector by pressing the tab with a flathead screwdriver and gently pulling apart.
Step 2: Locate the mirror wiring connector
- Look through the opening where the sail panel was: you should see the mirror wiring harness running into the door.
- The connector is usually clipped to the door metal—use a plastic trim removal tool or needle-nose pliers to release it from its holder without breaking the plastic.
- Press the locking tab on the connector with a flathead screwdriver and separate the two halves of the plug.
- Take a quick photo so you remember routing.
Step 3: Remove any mirror mounting cover or foam
- Some Rogues have a thin foam or rubber insulator over the mirror mounting nuts.
- Gently peel this back by hand; if needed, use a plastic trim removal tool to lift the edges.
- Set it aside to reuse later if it is in good condition.
Step 4: Remove the mirror mounting nuts
- There are typically three mounting studs with 10mm nuts holding the mirror to the door.
- Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and extension to loosen and remove the top nuts first.
- Support the mirror from the outside with one hand as you remove the final nut so it does not fall.
- Keep the nuts in a small tray so they do not get lost.
- Torque spec on reassembly: 7–9 Nm (62–80 in-lbs)
Step 5: Remove the old mirror from the door
- With all nuts removed and the wiring disconnected, gently pull the mirror away from the door from the outside.
- Feed the wiring harness and connector carefully out through the hole in the door; do not yank or twist.
- Check the door surface and clean any dirt or old foam pieces with a clean rag.
Step 6: Prepare the new mirror
- Compare the new mirror to the old one: mounting points, connector shape, paint style, and any options (turn signal, heater) should match.
- If the new mirror has a rubber gasket or foam pad, make sure it’s seated flat on the base.
- If the new mirror did not come with a gasket and your old one had one, transfer it carefully by hand.
Step 7: Install the new mirror on the door
- From outside the door, feed the wiring harness and connector through the same opening in the door metal.
- Hold the mirror in place so the studs pass through the holes in the door.
- From inside, hand-thread the 10mm nuts onto the studs using your fingers first to avoid cross-threading.
- Once all nuts are started by hand, use the 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension to snug them evenly.
- Use a torque wrench with the 10mm socket to tighten all three nuts to 7–9 Nm (62–80 in-lbs).
- Do not overtighten or you can crack the mirror base.
Step 8: Reconnect the wiring
- Route the harness the same way the old one was routed so it will not get pinched by the door panel.
- Push the two halves of the mirror connector together until you hear or feel a click.
- Clip the connector back into its holder in the door using your fingers or needle-nose pliers.
- Reinstall the foam or rubber insulator over the mounting area if your Rogue had one, pressing it back into place by hand.
Step 9: Reinstall the interior sail panel
- If your sail panel has a tweeter speaker, reconnect its plug until it clicks.
- Line up the clips on the back of the sail panel with the holes in the door.
- Press the panel firmly toward the door with your palm until all clips snap in place.
- Run your fingers around the edges to confirm it sits flush with no gaps.
Step 10: Reconnect the battery and test the mirror
- Reconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket and tighten snugly.
- Turn the ignition to ON (engine can be off).
- Test all mirror functions from the driver’s switch:
- Up, down, left, right power adjustment
- Folding function if equipped
- Heated mirror function (turn rear defogger ON and feel after a minute)
- Turn signal on mirror (if equipped)
- Blind spot indicator or camera, if your Rogue has those features
- If anything does not work, recheck the connector first.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and move the mirror to a comfortable driving position using the interior switch.
- Take a short, safe drive and double-check that the mirror is stable at speed with no vibration.
- Verify that the door opens and closes smoothly and no trim is loose or rattling.
- Remove any masking tape from the door and clean fingerprints from the mirror housing and glass.
