šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the interior mirror trim (āsail panelā)
- Use a trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to gently pry off the small triangular trim at the top-front of the door (inside, by the mirror).
- Work slowly around the edges until the clips release. Pull straight outward to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Remove the interior door trim panel
- Remove any visible screws in the pull handle/armrest area using a Phillips #2 screwdriver (some doors use Torxāif yours does, use a Torx T20 bit).
- Remove any remaining door-panel screws along the edges using a Torx T20 bit and/or Torx T30 bit (varies by door panel style).
- Use the trim removal tool (plastic) (specialty) to pop the door-panel push-clips free around the perimeter.
- Lift the door panel upward to unhook it from the window ledge, then pull it slightly away.
Step 3: Disconnect electrical connectors (if equipped)
- If your Wrangler has power windows/locks/mirrors, unplug the connectors using a pick tool (small) to lift the locking tabs, then pull straight out.
- If a connector is stubborn, use needle-nose pliers only on the connector body (not the wires).
- Set the door panel aside on a shop towel so it doesnāt get scratched.
Step 4: Unplug the mirror connector (powered/heated mirrors)
- Locate the mirror wiring connector near the top-front of the door.
- Release the lock with a pick tool (small), then unplug it by hand.
Step 5: Remove the mirror retaining nuts
- Support the mirror on the outside with one hand.
- Use a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 3" extension to remove the three mirror nuts.
- Keep the nuts if the new mirror does not include replacements.
Step 6: Remove the old mirror
- From outside the door, pull the mirror straight away from the door.
- If thereās a gasket, make sure it comes off cleanly and doesnāt stick to the door.
Step 7: Install the new mirror
- Position the new mirror and gasket on the door.
- Start all three nuts by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Use a 10mm socket to snug them evenly.
- Final tighten using a torque wrench (in-lb, 20ā200 in-lb range): Torque to 80 in-lb (9 NĀ·m).
Step 8: Reconnect mirror wiring (if equipped)
- Plug the mirror connector back in until it clicks (use your hands; no tools needed).
- Gently tug to confirm itās locked.
Step 9: Reinstall the door trim panel
- Reconnect all door electrical connectors by hand (listen/feel for a click).
- Hook the top of the door panel over the window ledge, then press the panel into place.
- Press the perimeter clips in firmly by hand.
- Reinstall screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver and/or Torx T20 bit/Torx T30 bit (whichever you removed).
Step 10: Reinstall the sail panel
- Align the clips and press the triangular trim back on by hand until it snaps in.
Step 11: Restore battery power (if disconnected)
- Use a 10mm socket to reconnect the negative battery cable and tighten it snugly.
ā After Repair
- š§Ŗ Verify the mirror is stable and doesnāt wobble when you push on it.
- If powered: turn ignition ON and test mirror adjustment in all directions.
- If heated/turn-signal equipped: confirm the feature works (if your mirror has it).
