🔧 Rogue - Side View Mirror Replacement

This job replaces the complete side mirror assembly (housing + motor + cover + turn signal/heat features if equipped). You’ll remove the interior door trim, unplug the mirror wiring, unbolt the mirror, then install and test the new one.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 1.0-2.0 hours (per side)

Assumption: Torque values listed are common Rogue specs—verify if you have a factory manual.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • 🛑 Disconnect the negative battery cable before working in the door (side airbag wiring can be present).
  • 🛑 Wait at least 3 minutes after battery disconnect before unplugging door connectors.
  • 🛑 Support the mirror when removing the last nut so it doesn’t fall and chip paint.
  • 🛑 Use plastic trim tools to avoid cracking panels and scratching trim.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" ratchet
  • 3" socket extension
  • Phillips #2 screwdriver
  • Trim removal tool set
  • Pick tool
  • Torque wrench (in-lb or low Nm range)
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Painters tape (1" or 2")
  • Fender cover
  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Side view mirror assembly (LH driver or RH passenger, paint-to-match if needed) - Qty: 1
  • Door panel trim clips - Qty: 4-10
  • Butyl tape or vapor barrier adhesive - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Use painters tape on the door edge and around the mirror base to protect paint.
  • Lower the window fully (gives you a safe handhold and room).
  • Disconnect the battery using a 10mm socket on the negative terminal, then wait 3 minutes.
  • Trim tool = plastic pry tool, prevents scratches.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the inner “sail panel” trim

  • At the top-front corner of the door (inside), pry off the small triangular trim piece using a trim removal tool set.
  • If it has a tweeter speaker, unplug the connector using a pick tool to lift the lock tab (a lock tab is a small plastic catch that must be released before the plug pulls out).

Step 2: Remove the door switch panel

  • Pry up the window switch panel with a trim removal tool set.
  • Unplug the switch connectors (press the tab, then pull) using a pick tool if needed.

Step 3: Remove door panel screws

  • Remove the screw(s) in the interior door pull/armrest area using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
  • Remove the screw behind the inside door handle bezel (if equipped) using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.

Step 4: Pop the door panel off the clips

  • Work around the lower and side edges of the door panel with a trim removal tool set to release the push-clips.
  • Pull straight out near each clip location (don’t yank from one corner).

Step 5: Lift the door panel up and disconnect cables

  • Lift the entire door panel upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
  • Disconnect the inside door handle cable(s). Use a trim removal tool set to open the cable retainer, then unhook the cable end.
  • Unplug any remaining connectors using a pick tool as needed.

Step 6: Peel back the vapor barrier (water shield)

  • Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier near the mirror area.
  • If the adhesive is stubborn, use gentle pressure with mechanic gloves; don’t tear the plastic.
  • Keep adhesive clean for re-seal.

Step 7: Unplug the mirror harness

  • Find the mirror connector(s) in the upper-front door area and unplug them.
  • If equipped with a camera/BSW/turn signal/heated mirror, you may see more than one connector—disconnect all that go to the mirror.

Step 8: Remove the mirror mounting nuts

  • Support the mirror with one hand from outside.
  • Remove the three mirror nuts using a 10mm socket, 3" socket extension, and 1/4" ratchet.
  • Keep the nuts if the new mirror didn’t include replacements.

Step 9: Remove the mirror assembly

  • Feed the wiring grommet and harness through the door opening and remove the mirror.
  • Clean the mounting surface (dirt here can cause wind noise and water leaks).

Step 10: Install the new mirror assembly

  • Feed the new mirror harness and grommet through the door.
  • Set the mirror onto the door studs and start all nuts by hand first (prevents cross-threading).
  • Tighten the nuts using a 10mm socket.
  • Torque to 7.5 Nm (66 in-lbs) using a torque wrench (in-lb or low Nm range).

Step 11: Reconnect wiring and reseal the vapor barrier

  • Reconnect the mirror connector(s) until they click.
  • Press the vapor barrier back into place. If it won’t stick, apply butyl tape or vapor barrier adhesive.

Step 12: Reinstall the door panel

  • Reconnect door handle cable(s) and all electrical connectors.
  • Hang the door panel on the top window ledge, then press down to seat it.
  • Press around the edges to snap all clips back in.
  • Reinstall screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
  • Reinstall the window switch panel and sail panel using a trim removal tool set.

âś… After Repair

  • Reconnect the battery negative terminal using a 10mm socket.
  • Turn ignition ON and test: mirror adjustment, power fold (if equipped), heat (if equipped), turn signal (if equipped).
  • If equipped with a passenger-side camera, verify the camera view is working and the image is stable.
  • Check for wind noise on a short drive (a mis-seated gasket or grommet is the usual cause).
