🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Raise the right-front corner
- Place wheel chocks at the rear wheels.
- Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift the right-front jacking point.
- Set the RX350 securely on jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Remove the right-front wheel using a 21mm socket.
- Reinstall later and tighten lug nuts to Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft-lbs) using a torque wrench.
Step 2: Remove the right-front fender liner access
- Use a trim clip removal tool to remove the plastic push clips/screws from the front section of the right fender liner (splash shield).
- Use a 10mm socket where the liner uses small bolts.
- Pull the liner back enough to see the belt and pulleys. Don’t fully remove if not needed.
Step 3: Inspect routing and pulleys
- Use a flashlight to confirm how the belt routes around each pulley.
- Spin the smooth pulleys by hand (idler/tensioner pulley). They should feel smooth and quiet.
- If a pulley feels rough or wobbly, plan to replace that part before installing the new belt.
Step 4: Release belt tension
- Install a 14mm socket on a 3/8" drive breaker bar (or serpentine belt tool (specialty) for more reach).
- Place the socket on the belt tensioner’s hex/bolt head and rotate the tensioner to relieve tension.
- With tension held released, slide the belt off one easy-to-reach pulley (typically an upper pulley).
- Slowly return the tensioner back to its resting position. Control it—don’t let it snap back.
Step 5: Remove the old belt
- Pull the belt out through the wheel well opening.
- Compare the old belt to the new belt (length/rib count should match).
Step 6: Route the new belt
- Route the new belt around the pulleys following your photo/reference.
- Make sure the ribbed side sits fully in the grooves of every ribbed pulley.
- Leave the easiest pulley for last (the one you can slip on with the tensioner released).
Step 7: Apply tension and seat the belt
- Use the 14mm socket with a 3/8" drive breaker bar (or serpentine belt tool (specialty)) to rotate the tensioner and create slack.
- Slip the belt onto the last pulley, then slowly release the tensioner.
- Double-check belt alignment on every pulley using a flashlight. One rib off can shred the belt.
Step 8: Reinstall fender liner and wheel
- Reposition the fender liner and install clips/bolts using a trim clip removal tool and 10mm socket.
- Reinstall the wheel using a 21mm socket.
- Lower the RX350 and tighten lug nuts to Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft-lbs) using a torque wrench.

- ✅ Start the engine and let it idle while you watch the belt for 20–30 seconds (no wandering, no squeal).
- ✅ Turn A/C on and off and listen for chirping or grinding (can indicate a pulley issue).
- ✅ Recheck the belt is centered on each pulley after a short test drive.
