🔧 Rear Turn Signal - Bulb Replacement
Assumption: This applies if your Camry has the serviceable bulb-style rear turn signal lamps. If your rear lamp is LED-sealed, the bulb cannot be replaced separately.
The rear turn signal bulb is replaced from inside the trunk through the rear combination lamp access area. You remove the lamp access cover, unplug the socket, swap the bulb, then reinstall everything and verify the flash rate.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the lights off and switch the ignition off before starting.
- Let the bulbs cool down first. Halogen-style bulbs can be hot.
- Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers if it is a glass bulb.
- Use care around the painted rear lamp area to avoid scratches.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

- Keep the new bulb in its package until you are ready to install it.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the trunk access area
- Open the trunk and locate the rear lamp access panel on the side you are replacing.
- Use a trim panel removal tool to gently move the trunk trim aside if needed.
Step 2: Remove the bulb access cover
- Remove the rear lamp access cover by hand or with a small flat blade screwdriver if the cover is tight.
- Set the cover aside so it does not get lost.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Find the turn signal bulb socket at the back of the lamp housing.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
- If it is stuck, use a small flat blade screwdriver very gently to help release it.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Twist the old bulb counterclockwise and remove it from the socket.
- Install the new rear turn signal bulb by twisting it into the socket until it locks in place.
- Do not force the bulb.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and cover
- Push the bulb socket back into the lamp housing.
- Twist it clockwise until it locks.
- Reinstall the access cover and make sure it sits flush.
Step 6: Test the new bulb
- Turn the ignition on and activate the turn signal.
- Check that the rear bulb flashes normally.
- If the bulb does not light, remove it and make sure it is seated correctly.
✅ After Repair
- Verify both rear turn signals flash at a normal speed.
- Check brake lights and tail lights while you are there.
- If the flash rate is fast, the bulb may not be seated correctly or the wrong bulb type may be installed.
