🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulb Replacement - Bulb Replacement

The rear turn signal bulbs on your Accord are serviced from inside the trunk by removing the inner trunk trim access panel. This is a simple repair, but use care with the bulb socket and tail lamp housing so you do not crack the plastic or touch the new bulb glass with your fingers.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the rear lamp cool down if it has been on recently.
  • Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
  • Use gentle force on the bulb socket and trim clips to avoid breaking them.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Clean microfiber towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Rear turn signal bulbs - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the trunk fully for access.
  • Have both replacement bulbs ready so you can replace them in pairs.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the trunk and locate the rear lamp access

  • Open the trunk and go to the side with the failed bulb.
  • Use your hands to pull back the trunk side trim or remove the access cover if equipped.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach behind the tail lamp and find the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out.
  • If it is stuck, use a trim panel tool gently to help create space, not to pry hard on the lamp.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Press the bulb inward slightly and turn it counterclockwise to remove it from the socket.
  • Install the new bulb by lining up the pins, then turn it clockwise until it locks.
  • Use a clean microfiber towel or gloves so the glass stays clean.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the tail lamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
  • Make sure it sits fully seated and does not wobble.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Activate the turn signal and confirm the new bulb flashes properly.
  • If it does not work, remove the socket again and check bulb seating.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both rear turn signals to make sure the flash rate is normal.
  • Confirm the trunk trim is fully clipped back into place.
  • If the bulb still does not work, inspect the socket for corrosion or bent contacts.
