🔧 Rear Turn Signal Bulbs - Bulb Replacement

The rear turn signal bulbs are serviced from the tail lamp assembly. You’ll remove the tail lamp, replace the bulb in the socket, then reinstall and test the signal and hazards.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and switch the lights off before starting.
  • Let the bulbs cool down before touching the lamp housing.
  • Do not touch the glass on halogen bulbs with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • If the tail lamp is loose or cracked, replace it before driving.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Short extension
  • Trim panel tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Shift into Park and make sure all lights are off.
  • Open the tailgate for better access to the rear lamp.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the tail lamp retaining fasteners

  • Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the tail lamp fasteners.
  • Keep the fasteners in a safe place.
  • Pull straight back gently.

Step 2: Remove the tail lamp assembly

  • Use your hands or a trim panel tool to carefully pull the tail lamp straight rearward.
  • Do not twist hard. The lamp housing has alignment pins.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Twist the rear turn signal bulb socket counterclockwise and pull it out of the lamp housing.
  • Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Push the new rear turn signal bulb into the socket until it seats fully.
  • Twist the socket back into the lamp housing clockwise until it locks.

Step 5: Reinstall the tail lamp

  • Align the lamp with the body openings and slide it straight into place.
  • Install the retaining fasteners with the 10mm socket and ratchet.
  • Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs).

Step 6: Test the repair

  • Turn on the ignition.
  • Check the rear turn signal and hazard lights.
  • Make sure the lamp is seated flush and there are no warning messages.

✅ After Repair

  • Walk around the vehicle and verify both rear signals flash normally.
  • Check the brake lights, reverse lights, and tail lights while you are there.
  • If the new bulb does not work, recheck the socket fit and bulb seating.
