🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the rear lamp access area
- Stand at the rear corner of the truck where the failed turn signal is located.
- Use a trim panel tool to carefully move any plastic trim or liner edge that blocks access to the tail lamp fasteners.
- Work slowly to avoid scratching paint.
Step 2: Remove the tail lamp fasteners
- Use a 10mm socket, ratchet, and short extension to remove the tail lamp retaining nuts.
- Keep the nuts in a safe place.
- There is no torque spec for removal.
Step 3: Remove the tail lamp assembly
- Pull the tail lamp straight rearward to release the locating pins.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle gently. Do not pry hard against the paint.
- Support the lamp with one hand.
Step 4: Replace the turn signal bulb
- Locate the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the lamp housing.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and remove it.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new bulb into the socket until fully seated.
- Reinstall the socket by twisting it clockwise until snug.
Step 5: Reinstall the tail lamp assembly
- Align the lamp locating pins with the body openings.
- Press the lamp straight into place.
- Install the 10mm nuts and tighten them with the 10mm socket and ratchet.
- Torque to 7 Nm (62 in-lbs).
Step 6: Test the bulb
- Turn the ignition on.
- Activate the turn signal for the side you repaired.
- Confirm the rear bulb flashes at normal speed.
- Check the brake light and tail light on that side too.
✅ After Repair
- Walk around the truck and verify both rear signals work correctly.
- If the new bulb does not light, recheck the socket fit and bulb seating.
- If the turn signal flashes fast, the bulb may be the wrong type or not fully seated.
