🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the serpentine belt

• Use the serpentine belt tool or a 15mm socket to rotate the belt tensioner.
• Slip the belt off the power steering pump pulley and slowly release the tensioner.
• Take a belt routing photo first.

Step 2: Drain the power steering fluid

• Place the drain pan under the pump.
• Use a line wrench set to loosen the pressure line fitting.
• Disconnect the return hose and let the fluid drain out.

Step 3: Remove the pulley

• Use the power steering pulley puller/installer (specialty) to remove the pulley from the old pump.
• Keep the pulley square while pulling it off so it does not get damaged.
• Do not pry on the pulley.

Step 4: Remove the pump

• Use a 13mm socket and 15mm socket to remove the pump mounting bolts.
• Lift the pump out of the bracket area carefully.
• Remove the old pressure line O-ring and discard it.

Step 5: Transfer the pulley to the new pump

• Use the power steering pulley puller/installer (specialty) to press the pulley onto the new pump.
• Press it on until it sits at the same depth as the original.
• Keep the pulley aligned straight.

Step 6: Install the new pump

• Set the new pump in place and start the mounting bolts by hand.
• Use the 13mm socket and 15mm socket to tighten the bolts.
• Torque to 50 N·m (37 ft-lbs).

Step 7: Reconnect the fluid lines

• Install the new pressure line O-ring.
• Use a line wrench set to reconnect the pressure line.
• Torque the pressure fitting to 25 N·m (18 ft-lbs).
• Reconnect the return hose and secure the clamp.

Step 8: Reinstall the serpentine belt

• Use the serpentine belt tool or 15mm socket to move the tensioner again.
• Route the belt back onto all pulleys using your routing photo.
• Make sure the belt is fully seated in every pulley groove.

Step 9: Refill and bleed the system

• Use a funnel to fill the reservoir with fresh power steering fluid.
• With the front wheels off the ground, turn the steering wheel slowly from lock to lock several times.
• Top off the fluid as the level drops.
• Start the engine and repeat the lock-to-lock turns gently.
• Check for foaming, leaks, and strange noises.
