📋 Before You Begin

• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Open the hood and locate the air intake tube between the air box and the throttle body.
• Disconnect the battery negative cable using a 10mm wrench (the negative terminal is marked “-”).
• Take a quick photo of the connector routing.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the MAF sensor

• Find the sensor on the intake tube just after the air box (it has an electrical connector).
• Wipe loose dust away with a shop towel so nothing falls into the intake.

Step 2: Unplug the MAF electrical connector

• Press the connector lock tab and pull the plug straight off.
• If it’s stuck, gently help the tab with a trim pick tool (a small hooked tool that lifts clips).
• If using it, apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the connector seal only (not on pins).

Step 3: Remove the MAF sensor (two common Silverado setups)

• Setup A (sensor held in by screws):
• Remove the two screws using a Torx T20 bit with a 1/4" drive ratchet.
• Pull the MAF sensor straight out (do not twist hard).
• Torque to 3 Nm (27 in-lbs) when reinstalling the screws.
• Setup B (sensor is part of the intake duct / housing section):
• Loosen the intake clamps using an 8mm socket or flat-head screwdriver.
• Remove the duct section enough to transfer/replace the MAF as designed.
• Re-tighten clamps securely: Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs) if using a torque tool; otherwise snug (don’t strip).

Step 4: Install the new MAF sensor

• Match the new sensor to the old one (connector and shape must match).
• Install it in the same direction as the old one (airflow direction matters).
• Make sure the seal/O-ring sits flat and is not pinched.
• Install screws using a Torx T20 bit and 1/4" drive ratchet: Torque to 3 Nm (27 in-lbs).

Step 5: Reconnect everything

• Plug the connector back in until it clicks.
• Reconnect the battery negative cable using a 10mm wrench.

✅ After Repair

• Start the engine and let it idle for 2-3 minutes.
• Check that the idle is smooth and the check engine light stays off.
• Do a short test drive (5-10 minutes) with light acceleration.
• If the check engine light returns, the issue may be an intake air leak, wiring/connector issue, or a different sensor.
