📋 Before You Begin

• Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
• Open the hood and locate the air filter box and intake tube.
• If you want the safest approach: disconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket. (The negative cable is the one marked “-”.)

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the MAF sensor

• Find the air intake tube coming off the air filter box. The MAF sensor is the small module plugged into the intake tube, with an electrical connector.
• Tip: It’s usually right after the air box.

Step 2: Unplug the electrical connector

• Press the connector lock tab with your thumb and pull the connector straight off.
• If it’s stuck, gently help it with a flat-blade screwdriver—do not pry hard on the wires.
• Tip: Wiggle the plug, don’t yank.

Step 3: Remove the MAF sensor screws

• Remove the 2 retaining screws using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
• If your sensor uses Torx screws instead, remove them with a Torx T20 screwdriver.
• Lift the MAF sensor straight out of the intake tube.

Step 4: Install the new MAF sensor

• Insert the new sensor into the same opening in the intake tube in the same orientation as the old one (match the mounting holes).
• Start both screws by hand first to avoid cross-threading.
• Tighten the screws with a Phillips #2 screwdriver or Torx T20 screwdriver (whichever fits). Torque to 3.5 Nm (31 in-lbs).
• Tip: Snug only—small screws strip easily.

Step 5: Reconnect everything

• Push the electrical connector back on until it clicks.
• If you disconnected the battery, reconnect the negative cable using a 10mm socket. Torque to 5 Nm (44 in-lbs).

✅ After Repair

• Start the engine and let it idle. Confirm the idle is steady and there is no check-engine light.
• If the check-engine light stays on, use a scan tool to clear codes, then recheck.
• If you disconnected the battery: warm the engine fully, then let it idle for about 5 minutes with all accessories OFF (A/C, lights, rear defog). This helps the idle relearn.
• Test drive 10–15 minutes and confirm no hesitation or warning lights.
