  • Label every hose and connector as you remove it.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Relieve fuel pressure and disconnect power

  • Use the appropriate fuse puller or pliers to remove the fuel pump fuse/relay, then start the engine and let it stall.
  • Turn the key off, then disconnect the negative battery cable with a 10mm wrench.

Step 2: Raise and support the vehicle

  • Use a floor jack to raise the Sequoia safely.
  • Support it with jack stands under the proper frame points.
  • Make sure the vehicle is stable before working underneath it.

Step 3: Remove skid plates and fuel tank access items

  • Use a metric socket set and ratchet to remove any skid plates or covers blocking the tank.
  • If equipped, disconnect the spare tire lowering mechanism or shields that prevent tank removal.

Step 4: Disconnect fuel filler and vent connections

  • Use a flat blade screwdriver or trim clip removal tool to loosen clamps or retainers as needed.
  • Remove the filler neck and vent hose connections at the tank.
  • Mark hose positions before removal.

Step 5: Disconnect electrical connectors and fuel lines

  • Use a fuel line disconnect tool to release the fuel supply and EVAP line connections.
  • Unplug the fuel pump electrical connector and any tank-related harness connectors.
  • Inspect each seal and O-ring as you disconnect lines.

Step 6: Support and lower the fuel tank

  • Use a transmission jack or wide-support jack to hold the tank.
  • Remove the tank strap bolts with a metric socket set and ratchet.
  • Lower the tank slowly and watch for any lines or connectors still attached.
  • Torque on reassembly: Tank strap bolts to 43 Nm (32 ft-lbs).

Step 7: Remove the fuel pump module

  • Clean the area around the pump module with shop rags before opening the tank.
  • Use a flat blade screwdriver or suitable lock ring tool to remove the pump lock ring.
  • Lift the fuel pump module out carefully without bending the float arm.
  • Remove the old seal/gasket.

Step 8: Install the new fuel pump module

  • Install the new seal/gasket on the tank opening.
  • Lower the new fuel pump module into place using the same orientation as the old one.
  • Install the lock ring and tighten it evenly.
  • Do not pinch the seal.

Step 9: Reinstall the fuel tank

  • Raise the tank with the transmission jack and reconnect all hoses and plugs.
  • Install the tank straps and tighten the strap bolts with a torque wrench.
  • Torque on reassembly: Fuel tank strap bolts to 43 Nm (32 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the filler neck, vent lines, fuel lines, and electrical connector.

Step 10: Reassemble and prime the system

  • Reinstall any skid plates or shields with the metric socket set.
  • Reconnect the negative battery cable with a 10mm wrench.
  • Turn the key to ON for 5 seconds, then OFF. Repeat 3-4 times to prime the fuel system.

  • Start the engine and let it idle while checking for fuel leaks.
  • Inspect the top of the tank, fuel lines, and filler neck area closely.
  • Verify the fuel gauge reads correctly.
  • Take a short test drive and confirm normal acceleration and no warning lights.
