- Turn the engine OFF and wait 1 minute.
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe dirt around the fuel filler area so nothing falls in.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the fuel door
- Press the fuel door release (or open it by hand, depending on your Sentraās setup).
- Use a flashlight to look for cracks or debris around the filler neck opening.
Step 2: Remove the old fuel cap
- Twist the cap counterclockwise by hand until it comes off.
- If thereās a tether (the little strap that keeps the cap attached), let it hangādonāt yank it.
- Use a clean shop towel to lightly wipe the sealing surface on the filler neck.
- Donāt push dirt into the filler neck.
Step 3: Install the new fuel cap
- Align the new cap and turn it clockwise by hand.
- Keep turning until you hear/feel it click (usually 1ā3 clicks). That click is the capās built-in clutch telling you itās tight enough.
- If the cap uses the original tether, confirm the tether isnāt twisted and the cap sits flat.
Step 4: Close up
- Close the fuel door securely.
