🔧 Fuel Cap - Replacement

The fuel cap on your Rogue is a sealed maintenance item that helps keep the fuel system closed and the EVAP system working correctly. If the cap is cracked, the seal is torn, or it no longer clicks tight, replacing it can prevent check-engine lights and fuel vapor leaks.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.1-0.2 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Work with the engine off and the vehicle parked on level ground.
  • Do not smoke or work near open flames.
  • Keep dirt out of the fuel filler neck.
  • No battery disconnect is required.
  • Let the cap area cool if the vehicle was just driven.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Clean microfiber cloth

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Fuel cap - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on a flat surface and set the parking brake.
  • Make sure the fuel door is open and the area around the filler neck is clean.
  • If the check engine light is already on, the code may clear itself after several drive cycles, but a scan tool can confirm EVAP system status.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the fuel door

  • Press on the fuel door and open it fully.
  • Remove any dirt or debris around the cap and filler neck using a clean microfiber cloth.

Step 2: Remove the old fuel cap

  • Turn the cap counterclockwise by hand until it comes off.
  • If the cap is stuck, keep steady pressure and turn slowly.

Step 3: Install the new fuel cap

  • Place the new cap on the filler neck and turn it clockwise by hand.
  • Keep turning until you hear and feel several clicks.
  • Tighten until it clicks securely.

Step 4: Close the fuel door

  • Close the fuel door gently and make sure it latches fully.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and confirm the fuel cap warning light is off.
  • If the check engine light was on, drive normally for a few trips and recheck for EVAP warnings.
  • Make sure the cap remains tight after your next fuel stop.
