• Park on level ground and shift to Park.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the old fuel cap

• Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
• Turn the cap counterclockwise by hand until it comes off.
• If it’s tethered (a small strap that keeps it attached), let it hang or unhook it carefully by hand.

Step 2: Inspect and clean the sealing area

• Use a flashlight to look at the filler neck opening.
• Wipe the sealing surface with a clean shop towel.
• Don’t drop dirt into the filler neck.

Step 3: Install the new fuel cap

• Place the new cap onto the filler neck and turn it clockwise by hand.
• Tighten until you feel and hear it “click” (typically 1–3 clicks). Hand-tight only.
• If equipped, reattach the tether by hand so the cap won’t get lost.

Step 4: Close up

• Close the fuel door firmly.
• Use the shop towel to wipe any fingerprints or fuel smell from the area.
