🔧 Front Turn Signal - LED Assembly Replacement

Your XSE uses an integrated front turn signal light in the headlamp assembly, so there is no separate bulb to swap out. If the turn signal is out, the usual repair is replacing the affected headlamp assembly or having the LED module serviced as an assembly.

Difficulty Level: Advanced | Estimated Time: 2-4 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable before working near headlamp wiring.
  • Do not touch or probe orange-colored high-voltage wires.
  • Let the engine and lights cool before starting.
  • The bumper cover must be removed on many front lamp replacements.
  • If your Camry has auto-leveling or adaptive lighting, the headlamps may need aiming after installation.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • 12mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Short extension
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Plastic trim tool set
  • Torque wrench
  • Jack stands
  • Floor jack
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Headlamp mounting hardware - Qty: As needed

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the lights off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable before unplugging the headlamp.
  • Keep track of all clips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Disconnect power

  • Use a 10mm socket to remove the negative battery terminal cable.
  • Isolate the cable so it cannot spring back and touch the battery post.

Step 2: Remove the front bumper cover fasteners

  • Use a trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver to remove the top and wheel-arch retainers.
  • Use a 10mm socket to remove the lower fasteners along the bumper cover.
  • Release the bumper cover tabs carefully with a plastic trim tool.

Step 3: Remove the bumper cover

  • Pull the bumper cover forward slowly from each corner.
  • Unplug any fog light or parking sensor connectors if equipped.
  • Set the bumper cover on a soft surface so the paint does not get damaged.

Step 4: Remove the headlamp assembly

  • Use a 10mm socket and 12mm socket with a ratchet and short extension to remove the headlamp bolts.
  • Unplug the headlamp electrical connector.
  • Lift the headlamp assembly out of the vehicle.
  • Do not force the connectors.

Step 5: Install the replacement headlamp

  • Position the new headlamp assembly in place.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector fully.
  • Install the mounting bolts by hand first.
  • Torque the headlamp bolts to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).

Step 6: Reinstall the bumper cover

  • Align the bumper cover tabs and press it into place.
  • Reinstall the fasteners and clips using the 10mm socket, Phillips screwdriver, and trim clip tool.
  • Make sure all gaps are even on both sides.

Step 7: Restore power and test

  • Reconnect the negative battery cable with a 10mm socket.
  • Turn on the parking lights and turn signals.
  • Confirm the front signal flashes normally and the other side matches brightness and color.

✅ After Repair

  • Check headlamp aim on a flat surface at night.
  • Verify the turn signal, parking light, and low beam all work.
  • If the lamp is aimed too high or low, have it adjusted.
