How to Replace the Front Turn Signal Bulbs on a 2016 Volkswagen Tiguan
Step-by-step instructions with tools, parts, safety tips, and testing advice
🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulbs - Replacement
Your Tiguan uses a front turn signal bulb in each headlamp assembly. The job is usually quick, but the access method depends on the headlamp housing, so work carefully and swap one side at a time.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob before starting.
- Let the headlamp area cool if the lights were recently on.
- Do not touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.
- If your hands are oily, use clean gloves or a clean paper towel.
- Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

Step 1: Open access to the headlamp area
- Open the hood and secure it.
- Use a flat-blade trim tool to gently move any plastic covers or intake ducting that blocks rear headlamp access, if equipped.
- Go slow to avoid breaking clips.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb access cap
- Locate the rear access cover on the back of the headlamp assembly.
- Use a flat-blade trim tool or your hand to release the cap.
- Set the cap aside in a clean spot.
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Grip the bulb socket and twist it counterclockwise by hand, or use a small pick tool if the socket is stuck.
- Pull the bulb/socket straight out.
- Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it out or twisting it free, depending on bulb style.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Compare the new bulb to the old one before installing.
- Install the new bulb into the socket with clean hands or nitrile gloves.
- Push the socket back into the headlamp and twist clockwise to lock it in place.
Step 5: Reassemble and test
- Reinstall the access cap by hand until fully seated.
- Put any removed ducting or covers back in place using the flat-blade trim tool if needed.
- Turn the ignition on and test the turn signal, hazard lights, and parking lights.
