🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulbs - Bulb Replacement

The front turn signal bulbs on your Golf are replaced from the wheel well side of the headlamp housing. On the S trim with halogen headlights, the bulb is serviceable and can be changed without removing the bumper.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlights off and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the bulbs cool down before touching them.
  • Do not touch the glass on the new bulb with bare fingers.
  • If your Golf has LED headlamps, the turn signal is not a simple bulb replacement.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Torx T25 screwdriver
  • Flat-head trim tool
  • Wheel chocks
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the steering wheel away from the side you are working on for better access.
  • Switch the lights off and make sure the turn signal stalk is centered.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the wheel well access area

  • Turn the steering wheel fully to the opposite side of the bulb you are replacing.
  • Use a Torx T25 screwdriver to remove the front section of the wheel liner fasteners if needed for access.
  • Gently pull back the liner by hand or with a flat-head trim tool to reach the back of the headlamp.
  • Work slowly to avoid tearing the liner.

Step 2: Remove the bulb holder

  • Reach behind the headlamp and locate the turn signal bulb holder.
  • Rotate the bulb holder counterclockwise by hand and pull it out of the housing.
  • If it is tight, use your fingers only and do not force it with metal tools.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Remove the old bulb from the socket.
  • Install the new front turn signal bulb into the holder.
  • Make sure it seats fully and stays straight.
  • Keep the bulb glass clean.

Step 4: Reinstall the bulb holder

  • Insert the bulb holder back into the headlamp housing.
  • Rotate it clockwise until it locks in place.
  • Reposition the wheel liner and reinstall any fasteners with the Torx T25 screwdriver.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn on the parking lights and activate the turn signal.
  • Check that the front signal flashes normally.
  • Repeat the same process on the other side if needed.

✅ After Repair

  • Verify both front signals flash at the same brightness and speed.
  • Check for any loose wheel liner fasteners.
  • If the bulb does not work, recheck that it is fully seated in the holder.
