How to Replace the Front Turn Signal Bulbs on a 2016 Toyota Tundra

🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Replacing the front turn signal bulbs on your Tundra is usually a straightforward job. The bulb is accessed from behind the headlamp assembly, so you will remove the access cover, twist the bulb socket out, and swap in the new bulb.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the lights off and let the bulbs cool before touching anything.
- Do not touch the glass part of a halogen bulb with bare fingers. Oil from skin can shorten bulb life.
- If your truck has a battery disconnect due to nearby wiring access, remove the negative cable with a 10mm wrench. For this bulb job, battery disconnect is usually not required.
- Work carefully around the headlamp housing so you do not crack the lens or damage the socket tabs.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:

Assumption: your Tundra uses the common front amber turn signal bulb type for this application.
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key or keep the fob away from the truck.
- If working on one side only, it is still smart to inspect both bulbs while you are there.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood
- Release the hood latch from inside the cab, then lift the hood and secure it.
- Use a flashlight to locate the rear of the headlamp assembly.
Step 2: Access the turn signal bulb socket
- Reach behind the headlamp assembly and find the turn signal bulb socket.
- If an intake duct or cover blocks access, remove it with a 10mm socket and ratchet.
- Keep hardware in a small tray.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the socket and twist it counterclockwise by hand to unlock it.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle gently. Do not force it.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Remove the old bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out, or by twisting and removing it if your socket design requires that.
- Install the new bulb firmly into the socket.
- Make sure it is seated fully and straight.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Align the socket tabs with the housing opening.
- Push the socket into place, then twist it clockwise by hand until it locks.
- If you removed any covers or ducts, reinstall them with the 10mm socket and ratchet.
Step 6: Test the new bulb
- Turn the ignition on and activate the turn signal.
- Confirm the front bulb flashes normally.
- Check for a fast flash rate, which can mean the bulb is not seated or is the wrong type.
✅ After Repair
- Walk around the truck and verify both front signals work correctly.
- Check the lens area for any loose covers or tools left behind.
- If the signal does not work, remove the socket and recheck bulb seating.
