🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

The front turn signal bulb on your Prius V is usually accessed from the engine bay behind each headlamp. This is a simple bulb swap on the standard halogen-style lamp housing, and you should replace both sides if one has failed so the light output stays even.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlights and ignition off before starting.
  • Let the bulbs cool before touching the lamp housing; hot bulbs can burn you.
  • Do not touch a new halogen bulb glass with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.
  • If your hands are oily, use a clean glove or a paper towel when handling the bulb.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the steering wheel away from the side you are replacing if you need extra room at the headlamp area.
  • Open the hood and secure it fully.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the headlamp bulb area

  • Open the hood and locate the back side of the headlamp assembly.
  • Use a flashlight to find the turn signal bulb socket near the outer side of the lamp housing.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and twist the bulb socket counterclockwise by hand.
  • If it is tight, use a trim panel tool gently for extra grip around the socket area, not on the glass bulb.
  • Pull the socket straight out once it unlocks.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Remove the old bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out.
  • Install the new front turn signal bulb into the socket until it seats fully.
  • Do not force it.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Line up the socket with the headlamp opening.
  • Insert it straight in and twist clockwise until it locks.
  • No torque spec applies to this bulb socket install.

Step 5: Test the light

  • Turn the ignition on and activate the turn signal.
  • Check that the new bulb flashes normally.
  • If it does not light, remove the socket and reseat the bulb.

✅ After Repair

  • Verify both front turn signals flash at the same brightness.
  • Check the hazard lights too.
  • If the bulb still does not work, inspect the socket for corrosion or a loose fit.
