🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Replacing the front turn signal bulb on your Prius C is a straightforward job. The bulb is accessed from the engine bay by removing the rear bulb access cap on the headlamp assembly, then twisting out the socket and swapping the bulb.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.6 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • The headlight bulb area can be hot if the lights were recently on.
  • Turn the ignition OFF before starting.
  • Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
  • Be gentle with the plastic bulb socket and rear access cap; they can crack if forced.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Clean gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch OFF.
  • Let the lamps cool if they were recently used.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood

  • Pull the hood release inside the cabin, then open the hood and secure it.
  • Work slowly around plastic clips.

Step 2: Locate the turn signal bulb socket

  • Find the rear of the headlamp assembly for the front turn signal bulb.
  • On your Prius C, the bulb is accessed from the engine bay, not from the wheel well.

Step 3: Remove the bulb access cover

  • Use your hand or a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently pry off the rear access cap if it is tight.
  • Set the cap aside where it stays clean.

Step 4: Remove the bulb socket

  • Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out of the headlamp housing.
  • Do not yank on the wiring.

Step 5: Replace the bulb

  • Remove the old bulb from the socket.
  • Install the new amber bulb firmly into the socket.
  • If the bulb is a twist-lock style, align it correctly before inserting.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and cover

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing and twist it clockwise until it locks.
  • Reinstall the access cap fully so moisture stays out.

Step 7: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition ON and activate the turn signal.
  • Confirm the front bulb flashes normally on both sides.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both front turn signals for proper flash rate.
  • Make sure the access cap is seated tightly.
  • If the bulb does not work, remove it and confirm it is fully seated in the socket.
