🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

The front turn signal bulb on your Highlander is replaced from behind the front lamp assembly. On the LE trim, this is typically a standard amber bulb, and the job is straightforward once you access the rear of the headlamp housing.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and remove the key/fob before starting.
  • Let the bulb cool before touching it; halogen bulbs can get very hot.
  • Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers.
  • If you need more room, support the vehicle safely before working in the wheel well.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4-inch ratchet
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flashlight
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

  • Front turn signal bulb, amber - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch off.
  • Open the hood.
  • If access is tight, turn the front wheels away from the side you are working on.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open access to the rear of the headlamp

  • Use a flat-blade screwdriver and trim clip removal tool to remove any plastic clips or fasteners holding back the inner fender liner if needed for hand access.
  • On some sides, you can reach the bulb from the engine bay without removing anything.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp assembly and find the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Use your hand to twist the socket counterclockwise and pull it out of the housing.
  • If it is tight, use a flat-blade screwdriver gently to help release the tab.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Push the new amber bulb into the socket until it seats fully.
  • Match the old bulb shape before installing.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Line up the socket with the headlamp opening.
  • Use your hand to twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
  • Make sure it sits snugly so moisture cannot get inside.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition on and activate the left and right turn signals one at a time.
  • Confirm the new bulb flashes normally and matches the other side.
  • If it does not work, remove the socket again and check bulb seating.

✅ After Repair

  • Check that the turn signal flashes at normal speed.
  • Verify the front parking light and headlight still work.
  • Reinstall any liner clips or fasteners you removed.
