🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement - Bulb Replacement

Replacing the front turn signal bulbs on your Equinox is a straightforward job, but access is tight behind the headlamp assembly. The safest way is to reach the bulb from the wheel well and replace it carefully without touching the glass of the new bulb.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • The bulb and socket can be hot if the lights were just on. Let them cool first.
  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • Do not touch the glass part of a halogen bulb with bare hands. Skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • Use the parking brake and keep the vehicle on level ground.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 7mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Short extension
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flat trim tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch off.
  • Steer the front wheels away from the side you are working on for easier access.
  • If replacing both sides, do one side at a time so you can compare the parts.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open wheel-well access

  • Use a 7mm socket and ratchet to remove the screws holding the front edge of the wheel-well liner.
  • Use a trim clip removal tool to release any plastic push clips.
  • Carefully pull the liner back enough to reach the back of the front turn signal bulb.
  • Work slowly so the liner does not crack.

Step 2: Remove the old bulb

  • Reach behind the headlamp assembly and twist the turn signal bulb socket counterclockwise by hand.
  • Pull the socket straight out.
  • Remove the bulb from the socket by pulling it straight out or gently twisting it, depending on bulb style.

Step 3: Install the new bulb

  • Push the new bulb into the socket firmly.
  • Make sure it is fully seated and straight.
  • Do not touch the glass with bare fingers.
  • Use gloves for a cleaner bulb install.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
  • Make sure it sits snugly and does not wobble.

Step 5: Reassemble the wheel-well liner

  • Push the liner back into position.
  • Reinstall the plastic clips with your hands or a trim clip removal tool.
  • Reinstall the screws using a 7mm socket and ratchet.
  • Torque to 2-3 Nm (18-27 in-lbs) if you are tightening into plastic.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition on and test the front turn signal on both sides.
  • Check that the new bulb flashes at the same rate as the other side.
  • If the bulb does not work, remove it and check that it is fully seated.
  • Verify the wheel-well liner is secure and not rubbing the tire.
