🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

Your Silverado uses a front turn signal bulb inside the headlamp assembly. The job is usually quick, but access is tight, so working carefully matters more than force. Replacing both sides at the same time is a smart move if one bulb has failed.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the headlight switch off and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the bulbs cool completely before touching the lamp housing.
  • Do not touch the glass on a new halogen bulb with bare fingers.
  • If you need to move the battery cable for access, disconnect the negative battery terminal first.
  • Use care around the headlamp lens and plastic tabs; they break easily.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 7mm socket
  • Flat-blade trim tool
  • Ratchet
  • Extension
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the lights off and remove the key.
  • Open the hood.
  • If both bulbs are the same age, replace both sides now.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood and locate the headlamp rear access area

  • Stand in front of your Silverado and open the hood.
  • Find the back side of the headlamp assembly behind the grille and radiator support area.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.

Step 2: Remove any intake duct or fastener blocking access

  • If needed, use a 7mm socket and ratchet to remove the air inlet duct fasteners that block the back of the lamp.
  • Lift the duct out carefully and set it aside.
  • If your truck has a different access path, use the same 7mm socket to remove any retaining screws in the way.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp housing and locate the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
  • If it is tight, use a flat-blade trim tool gently at the edge of the socket base.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Twist the old bulb counterclockwise in the socket and remove it.
  • Install the new bulb by twisting it clockwise until it seats fully.
  • Do not force it. The tabs should line up easily.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Push the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise until it locks.
  • Make sure it is fully seated so moisture does not get inside.

Step 6: Reinstall any removed ducting or fasteners

  • Put the intake duct or cover back in place.
  • Use the 7mm socket and ratchet to tighten the fasteners snugly.
  • Snug is enough for plastic parts.

Step 7: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Activate the turn signal on the repaired side.
  • Confirm the bulb flashes normally and matches the other side.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both front signals from outside the truck.
  • Make sure the headlamp cover area is fully closed and latched.
  • If the signal still does not work, check the socket for corrosion or a blown fuse.
