🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

Your Corolla uses a small amber front turn signal bulb in the headlamp assembly. This job is usually quick and done from behind the headlight housing, so you do not need to remove the bumper.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Let the headlight area cool down before touching it.
  • Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers. Oil from your skin can shorten bulb life.
  • Turn the lights off and remove the key before starting.
  • If the engine cover blocks access, remove it gently by hand.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Clean shop towel
  • Small flat trim tool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the lighting switch to OFF.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.
  • If one bulb failed, replace both sides at the same time for even brightness.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open access to the back of the headlamp

  • Open the hood and locate the rear of the headlight assembly.
  • If the engine cover blocks access, lift it straight up by hand. It snaps on and off.
  • Work gently on plastic clips.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and find the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the housing.
  • No torque spec applies here; it is a twist-lock fit.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Twist the old bulb counterclockwise and remove it from the socket, or pull it straight out if your socket style is push-in.
  • Install the new bulb using clean gloves.
  • Make sure the bulb is fully seated.
  • Do not touch the glass.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
  • Confirm it feels snug and fully seated.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the key to ON.
  • Turn on the turn signal and check the repaired side.
  • Make sure the bulb flashes normally and the lens is secure.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both front turn signals for proper flash rate.
  • Verify the dash indicator does not stay on solid.
  • If the bulb does not light, remove the socket and recheck the bulb fit.
