On your Camaro, the front turn signal is either a replaceable amber bulb (most halogen-headlamp cars) or an LED built into the headlamp (some packages). The steps below cover both so you don’t buy parts you can’t use.

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on (gives more access behind the front wheel liner).
  • Decide which style you have:
    • If you can remove a twist-lock socket and see a removable bulb: you have the replaceable bulb style.
    • If there is no bulb socket for the turn signal and it’s an LED strip/module: it’s typically not a bulb replacement (headlamp repair/replacement).
  • If you’ll remove the front wheel, loosen the lug nuts slightly before lifting.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Verify bulb-type vs LED-type turn signal

  • Turn the front turn signal on (hazards work well), then turn it back off.
  • Use a flashlight to look through the wheel well area behind the headlamp for a round twist-lock bulb socket.
  • If you confirm a twist-lock socket, continue to Step 2.
  • If you do not see any bulb socket for the turn signal, skip to Step 9.

Step 2: Lift and secure the front corner (recommended for space)

  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  • Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift the front corner you’re working on.
  • Set the car down onto jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).

Step 3: Remove the front wheel (optional but easiest)

  • Use a breaker bar with a 19mm socket to remove the lug nuts.
  • Remove the wheel and set it aside.
  • When reinstalling later: Torque to 190 Nm (140 ft-lbs).

Step 4: Open access in the front wheelhouse liner

  • Use a 7mm socket and ratchet to remove the small screws along the front/upper section of the liner (only the section needed to reach the back of the headlamp).
  • Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out push clips. (A trim clip tool is a forked pry tool that removes plastic clips without breaking them.)
  • If a clip is stubborn, use a flathead screwdriver to gently lift the center pin first.
  • Pull the liner back just enough to reach the back of the headlamp.

Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach to the rear of the headlamp and locate the turn signal socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
  • Don’t yank wires—hold the socket body.

Step 6: Replace the bulb

  • Wear nitrile gloves.
  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber) firmly into the socket until fully seated.

Step 7: Reinstall the socket and reassemble the liner

  • Insert the socket into the headlamp, then twist clockwise to lock it.
  • Reposition the liner and reinstall screws using a 7mm socket and ratchet.
  • Reinstall push clips using the trim clip removal tool (or press them in by hand).

Step 8: Reinstall wheel and lower the car

  • Install the wheel and hand-thread lug nuts.
  • Snug them using a 19mm socket and ratchet.
  • Lower the car off the jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum) using the floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum).
  • Final tighten in a star pattern: Torque to 190 Nm (140 ft-lbs).

Step 9: If your turn signal is LED (no bulb socket found)

  • This style typically does not have a serviceable “bulb” for the turn signal.
  • The repair is usually replacing the front headlamp assembly (LED turn signal style) or an internal module, depending on build equipment.
  • If you want, tell me: (1) is your turn signal out on one side or both, and (2) do you see a removable round bulb socket behind that headlamp—yes/no. I’ll point you to the correct repair path.

âś… After Repair

  • Test hazards and left/right turn signals to confirm normal flash rate.
  • Check that the bulb socket is fully locked (a loose socket can cause intermittent operation).
  • If you get a fast-flash on the dash after replacement, the bulb may be the wrong type or not seated.
