🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which system you have (bulb vs LED)
- Turn the hazard lights on and watch the front corner of the headlamp with a flashlight.
- If you can see an amber “bulb-shaped” light source, follow Steps 2-7 (serviceable bulb).
- If it’s a smooth LED bar/element and there’s no bulb access, skip to Step 8 (LED/non-serviceable style).
Step 2: (Optional) Remove the front wheel for easier access
- Loosen the lug nuts slightly using a 19mm socket and ratchet (3/8") while the tire is on the ground.
- Lift with a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) and support with jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Remove lug nuts with the 19mm socket and set the wheel aside.
Step 3: Pull back the front fender liner (wheel-well splash shield)

Step 5: Remove the bulb socket

- Pull the socket straight out.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket using nitrile gloves.
- Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber, serviceable type) into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: Don’t touch the bulb glass.
Step 7: Reinstall and test
- Reinsert the socket and twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Turn hazards on and confirm the bulb flashes normally.
- Reposition the liner and reinstall clips/screws using the trim clip removal tool, Torx T15 screwdriver, and/or 7mm socket.
- If you removed the wheel, install lug nuts with a 19mm socket, lower the vehicle, then Torque to 140 Nm (103 ft-lbs) using a torque wrench (10-150 ft-lbs).
Step 8: If your XT5 has an LED front turn signal (no replaceable bulb)
- LED turn signals in the headlamp are typically not a “bulb” you can swap; the repair is usually a headlamp/module replacement.
