🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

Replacing the front turn signal bulb on your Prius is a quick job, usually done from behind the headlamp housing. The main goal is to access the bulb socket, swap the bulb, and make sure the new bulb is seated and working correctly.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and remove the key fob from the vehicle before starting.
  • Let the headlamp cool if it has been on recently; bulbs and housings can be hot.
  • Do not touch the glass on a new halogen bulb with bare fingers. Oils can shorten bulb life.
  • If the car is in READY mode, shut it down fully before working near the front of the vehicle.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Flat blade screwdriver
  • Work light
  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch to OFF.
  • Open the hood and secure it fully.
  • Keep the replacement bulbs in their packaging until you are ready to install them.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the rear of the headlamp

  • Open the hood and locate the rear of the headlamp housing on the side you are replacing.
  • If access is tight, use the trim panel removal tool to gently move any plastic retainers or nearby ducting out of the way.
  • Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Find the turn signal bulb socket at the back of the headlamp.
  • Use your hand to rotate the socket counterclockwise and pull it straight out.
  • If it is stuck, use a flat blade screwdriver carefully to start it turning, but do not pry hard.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Install the new bulb into the socket until fully seated.
  • Make sure the bulb is clean and not touched on the glass.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Rotate it clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
  • It should feel snug, not forced.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition ON.
  • Activate the turn signal for that side.
  • Confirm the bulb flashes normally and matches the other side.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both front turn signals to make sure they flash at the same speed.
  • Verify the bulb stays secure after a short drive over a bump.
  • If the signal still does not work, recheck the socket seating and bulb fit.
