🔧 Durango - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Durango’s front turn signal may be a traditional replaceable amber bulb, or it may be an LED that’s built into the lamp assembly (not a separate bulb). The steps below cover both setups so you can follow the path that matches what you see once you open the access cover.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.5 hours
Quick questions (reply anytime): 1) Is the failed signal in the headlamp (front corner) or the mirror? 2) When it flashes, is it “fast flashing” on the dash?
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Let the headlamp area cool before touching it.
- 🛑 Support the SUV with jack stands if you lift it; never rely on a jack alone.
- 🛑 Don’t touch bulb glass with bare fingers; oil can shorten bulb life.
- 🛑 If you’ll unplug the headlamp assembly, switch ignition OFF and keep the key away from the vehicle.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, shift to Park, set the parking brake, and chock a rear wheel.
- 🔎 Decide your access route: easiest is usually through the engine bay; sometimes the wheel-well liner gives better hand room.
- 🧼 Wipe dirt off the back of the headlamp area so debris doesn’t fall into the socket.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm whether you have a replaceable bulb or LED
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp (front corner lamp area).
- Look for a round twist-out bulb socket with wires going to it (that means a replaceable bulb).
- If there is no twist socket and the turn signal looks like a sealed LED strip/module, follow the LED path in Step 6.
Step 2: Create access (choose A or B)
- A (Engine-bay access): Reach behind the headlamp and locate the turn signal socket.
- B (Wheel-well access, more room):
- Use wheel chocks, then lift the front corner with a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) and support it with jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on for more space.
- Remove the needed liner fasteners using a trim clip removal tool and Torx T20 screwdriver.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Use your hand (or gentle help with a flathead screwdriver if needed) to rotate the bulb socket about 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
- Pull the socket straight out of the lamp.
- Don’t pry hard on the lamp housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket while wearing nitrile gloves.
- Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If the socket seal looks torn/flattened, replace the turn signal bulb socket seal (if damaged).
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket into the lamp and rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
- Turn the ignition ON and activate the turn signal to confirm normal flashing.
- If you removed the liner, reinstall fasteners using a Torx T20 screwdriver and trim clip removal tool.
Step 6 (If your turn signal is LED/non-serviceable): Replace the headlamp assembly
- Switch ignition OFF and open the hood.
- Remove any upper covers/trim as needed using a trim clip removal tool.
- Remove headlamp fasteners using a ratchet with an 8mm socket and/or 10mm socket (fastener sizes vary by lamp mounting points).
- Carefully pull the headlamp forward and unplug the electrical connector(s) by hand; use a flathead screwdriver only to release a lock tab gently if needed.
- Install the new front headlamp assembly (if turn signal is LED/non-serviceable), reconnect connectors, and reinstall fasteners with a ratchet.
- Check headlamp aim after installation; if the beam pattern looks off, the aim may need adjustment.
✅ After Repair
- 🔁 Verify left and right turn signals, hazards, and parking lights work.
- 🚦 Confirm the dash indicator flashes at a normal rate (fast flash usually means a bulb/circuit issue).
- 🔍 Check that the bulb socket is fully locked and not letting moisture in.
