🔧 Enclave - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
On your Enclave, the front turn signal is serviced from behind the headlamp housing (usually through the front wheel-well liner). You’ll remove a few liner fasteners, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, then reassemble and test.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Support the SUV with jack stands; never rely on a jack alone.
- 🔥 If you recently drove, let the wheel/brakes cool before working in the wheel well.
- ⚡ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle area to prevent lights from turning on unexpectedly.
- 🧤 Wear gloves; halogen bulbs run hot and oils from skin can shorten bulb life.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Chock the rear wheels with wheel chocks.
- Turn the steering wheel toward the side you’re working on (gives more room in the wheel well).
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify the side and get access
- Turn the steering wheel to open up the wheel well on the side you’re replacing.
- If access is tight, remove the front wheel:
- Use a 19mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen lug nuts 1/2 turn on the ground.
- Lift with a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) and support with jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Remove lug nuts with the 19mm socket and take the wheel off.
Step 2: Pull back the front wheel-well liner
- Use a 7mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the small screws along the front portion of the liner.
- Remove plastic push pins using a trim clip removal tool. (A trim clip tool is a small pry tool made to pop plastic fasteners out without breaking them.)
- If a clip is stubborn, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver.
- Pull the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlamp. Use a work light so you can see the bulb sockets.
- Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs) when reinstalling the liner screws.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal socket on the back of the headlamp (it’s usually the outer/amber section).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about a quarter-turn, then pull it straight out.
- If it won’t turn, wiggle—don’t force.
Step 4: Replace the bulb (two possible designs)
- If you see a removable bulb in the socket:
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new bulb straight in until fully seated.
- If there is no removable bulb (LED module style):
- Your Enclave uses an LED turn signal module that is not serviced as a simple bulb.
- At that point, the repair changes to replacing the LED module/headlamp component and may require additional steps and parts.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and reassemble
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp and rotate clockwise to lock it in place.
- Reposition the wheel-well liner and reinstall screws/push pins using the 7mm socket and trim clip removal tool.
- If you removed the wheel:
- Install the wheel and hand-start lug nuts.
- Lower the SUV and torque lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench (30-200 ft-lbs range).
- Torque to 190 Nm (140 ft-lbs).
âś… After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and test the left/right turn signals and hazards.
- Verify the bulb flashes at a normal speed (fast flash usually indicates a bulb/circuit issue).
- Confirm the wheel-well liner is secured and not rubbing the tire while steering lock-to-lock.
