šŸ”§ Encore - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Encore’s front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlamp assembly. The most beginner-friendly access is through the front wheel-well liner (the plastic splash shield), so you don’t have to remove the headlight.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

Assumption: your front turn signal bulb is the amber headlamp bulb (common fit: 7444NA).

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working around wiring.
  • āš ļø Let the headlamp area cool down so you don’t burn your fingers.
  • āš ļø Support the vehicle with jack stands before reaching into the wheel well.
  • āš ļø Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb swap.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks
  • Lug wrench or 19mm socket
  • Ratchet (3/8")
  • 7mm socket
  • Extension (3" to 6")
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flashlight
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7444NA or equivalent) - Qty: 1
  • Plastic push-pin retainers (wheel liner clips) - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  • Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly with a lug wrench or 19mm socket before lifting.
  • Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift and secure the front corner

  • Use a floor jack to lift the front corner on the side you’re replacing.
  • Set the vehicle onto jack stands before working in the wheel well.

Step 2: Remove the front wheel

  • Remove the lug nuts using a lug wrench or 19mm socket and ratchet (3/8").
  • Remove the wheel and set it aside.
  • Reinstall lug nuts later and Torque to 140 Nm (103 ft-lbs).

Step 3: Pull back the wheel-well liner

  • Use a flashlight to find the plastic liner fasteners near the front of the wheel well.
  • Remove small screws using a 7mm socket, ratchet (3/8"), and extension (3" to 6").
  • Pop out push-pin clips using a trim clip removal tool (this tool slides under the clip and pries it out without breaking it).
  • Gently pull the liner back just enough to reach the back of the headlamp.
  • Tip: Don’t fully remove the liner.

Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and locate the turn signal bulb socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the headlamp housing).
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.

Step 5: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (no tools needed).
  • Install the new amber turn signal bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it with a clean dry cloth while wearing nitrile gloves.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and liner

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp, then twist clockwise until it locks.
  • Reposition the liner and reinstall screws using a 7mm socket and ratchet (3/8").
  • Reinstall any push-pin clips (replace broken ones with new clips).

Step 7: Reinstall the wheel

  • Put the wheel back on and hand-thread the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle using the floor jack, remove the jack stands, then fully lower.
  • Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern with a lug wrench or 19mm socket: Torque to 140 Nm (103 ft-lbs).

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and test the turn signal on that side.
  • Turn on the hazards to confirm the bulb flashes normally.
  • If it ā€œhyper-flashesā€ quickly, double-check the bulb is fully seated and that it’s the correct type.
  • Verify the liner is secured so it won’t rub the tire.
