🔧 Front Door Lock Actuator - Replacement

On your Rogue, the front door lock actuator is serviced as part of the door latch assembly. You’ll remove the door panel, peel back the water shield, disconnect the cables and connectors, then swap the latch/actuator assembly inside the door.

Difficulty Level: Intermediate | Estimated Time: 2-4 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable before unplugging door wiring. This helps prevent airbag or module damage.
  • The side curtain airbag is in the door area. Do not probe yellow SRS connectors.
  • Support the door trim panel so you do not crack the clips.
  • Keep the window glass fully up while working inside the door.
  • If the door is frozen shut or damaged from impact, stop and inspect the linkage before forcing it.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel removal tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Extension bar
  • Torx T30 screwdriver
  • Flat blade screwdriver
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Torque wrench
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front door latch and lock actuator assembly - Qty: 1
  • Door panel clip set - Qty: 1
  • Water shield butyl tape or adhesive - Qty: 1
  • Interior door handle bezel clip - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and open the affected front door fully.
  • Lower the window slightly only if needed for access, then raise it back up before disconnecting anything.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 3 minutes.
  • Keep screws organized by location.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the door panel

  • Use a trim panel removal tool to pop up the switch panel and any trim covers.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the visible screws at the armrest and handle area.
  • Use the trim panel removal tool to release the door panel clips around the perimeter.
  • Lift the panel upward to unhook it from the window ledge.
  • Unplug the electrical connectors for the window switch and any courtesy light.

Step 2: Remove the water shield

  • Use a flat blade screwdriver or your hand to carefully peel back the moisture barrier.
  • Save the butyl adhesive if it stays clean and sticky.
  • Do not tear the water shield.

Step 3: Disconnect the interior handle and lock linkage

  • Use needle-nose pliers to unclip the rod retainers, if equipped.
  • Release the cable ends from the interior handle and lock mechanism.
  • Set the cables aside without kinking them.

Step 4: Remove the latch/actuator assembly

  • Use a 10mm socket, ratchet, and extension bar to remove the door edge latch bolts.
  • Remove the exterior handle linkage or rod if it blocks the latch.
  • Work the latch/actuator assembly out through the access opening in the door shell.
  • Torque on installation: 8 N·m (71 in-lbs)

Step 5: Transfer any linkage pieces if needed

  • If your new part does not include every rod or clip, transfer them one at a time.
  • Use needle-nose pliers and the flat blade screwdriver carefully.
  • Match the old part before swapping clips.

Step 6: Install the new latch/actuator assembly

  • Slide the new assembly into the door the same way the old one came out.
  • Reconnect the exterior handle rod, interior handle cable, and lock linkage.
  • Install the door edge bolts with the 10mm socket.
  • Torque to 8 N·m (71 in-lbs)

Step 7: Test the mechanism before reassembly

  • Reconnect the battery temporarily if needed for testing.
  • Use the key fob, interior lock switch, and door handle to verify lock and unlock movement.
  • Check that the door opens from inside and outside.
  • If the latch binds, recheck the cable routing and rod clips.

Step 8: Reinstall the water shield and door panel

  • Press the water shield back into place with the original adhesive or new butyl tape.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors.
  • Hang the door panel on the window ledge, then press the clips into place.
  • Install all screws with the Phillips screwdriver.
  • Snap the trim covers back on.

✅ After Repair

  • Lock and unlock the door several times with the switch and key fob.
  • Open the door from inside and outside to confirm full latch release.
  • Check that the window switch and speaker still work.
  • Make sure the door panel sits flush and no clips are loose.
