🔧 CX-50 - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Your CX-50’s engine air filter keeps dust and debris out of the engine. Replacing it is quick and helps airflow, fuel economy, and performance—especially if you drive in dusty areas.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park your CX-50 on level ground and switch the engine OFF.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Wait a few minutes if the engine was recently running.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Find the air filter box
- Use a flashlight to locate the black plastic air filter box in the engine bay (it’s the box connected to the intake tube).
Step 2: Open the air filter box
- Release the retaining clips on the air filter box by hand while wearing nitrile gloves.
- Lift the top half of the air box enough to remove the filter. Don’t force it—clips should pop free.
Step 3: Remove the old filter
- Pull the filter straight out by hand.
- Use a flashlight to check for leaves or heavy dirt inside the lower air box.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe loose dust from the air box rim where the filter seals.
- Do not push dirt down the intake opening.
Step 5: Install the new filter
- Place the new engine air filter into the lower air box, seated flat and fully in its groove.
- Match the filter orientation exactly like the old one (same direction, same fit).
Step 6: Close the air filter box
- Lower the air box lid into place.
- Re-latch the clips by hand until they fully lock.
- Give the lid a gentle tug to confirm it’s secure all the way around. A mis-seal can trigger a rough idle.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 20–30 seconds.
- Listen for any hissing/whistling (can mean the air box isn’t fully clipped).
- If you notice a warning light or rough running, re-check that the filter is seated and the box is fully closed.
