📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- Open the hood and let the engine cool if it was running.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the hood and find the air box
- Use safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
- Use a flashlight to locate the air filter box (a black plastic box connected to a large intake tube).
Step 2: Unclip the air box cover
- Release the retaining clips around the air box cover by hand.
- If a clip is stubborn, gently pry it with a small flathead screwdriver.
- Don’t force it; clips should pop free.
Step 3: Lift the cover and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box cover just enough to access the filter (you usually don’t need to remove the intake tube).
- Pull the old filter straight out with your hands.
- Use a flashlight to check the air box for leaves or dirt.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Wipe the inside edge (where the filter seals) using a clean shop towel.
- Do not let debris fall deeper into the intake path.
Step 5: Install the new filter correctly
- Install the new engine air filter into the air box by hand.
- Make sure it sits flat and fully seated in the groove all the way around.
- If the filter has an “UP” marking, keep that side facing up.
Step 6: Close the air box and secure all clips
- Lower the air box cover into place by hand.
- Snap all retaining clips back on by hand.
- Use a flashlight to confirm the cover is evenly closed (no gaps).
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 20-30 seconds.
- Listen for whistling/hissing (a sign the air box isn’t sealed).
- Re-check that every clip is fully latched.
