šŸ”§ Palisade - Engine Air Filter Replacement

Replacing your Palisade’s engine air filter keeps dirt out of the engine and helps airflow stay strong for good performance and fuel economy. This is a quick job because the filter sits in a snap/clip air box in the engine bay.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.4 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Work on a cool engine to avoid burns.
  • āš ļø Keep fingers clear of moving parts; the engine must be OFF.
  • āš ļø Do not use compressed air to ā€œcleanā€ the filter; replace it.
  • āœ… Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Clean shop towel

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Engine air filter - Qty: 1

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the engine OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the air filter housing

  • Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air box connected to the large intake tube going toward the engine.
  • The air filter sits inside this box (usually near the front/side of the engine bay).

Step 2: Unclip the air box lid

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Release the metal/plastic retaining clips by hand; if a clip is stubborn, gently help it with a small flat-blade screwdriver.
  • Tip: Don’t pry hard—clips can snap.

Step 3: Open the housing and remove the old filter

  • Lift the air box lid just enough to access the filter (you usually don’t need to remove the whole lid).
  • Pull the filter straight out with your hands.
  • Use a flashlight to note how the filter is oriented (which side faces up/out).

Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface

  • Use a clean shop towel to wipe out loose dust/debris from the lower air box.
  • Wipe the sealing lip (the edge where the filter sits) so the new filter seals well.
  • Tip: Don’t let dirt fall into the intake tube.

Step 5: Install the new engine air filter

  • Place the new filter into the air box in the same direction as the old one.
  • Make sure it sits flat and fully seated all the way around (no corners folded).

Step 6: Re-close the air box and secure the clips

  • Lower the lid back into place, aligning any tabs/slots.
  • Snap each retaining clip back on by hand (use the small flat-blade screwdriver only if needed to guide, not force).
  • Do a quick tug test on the lid to confirm it’s latched evenly.

āœ… After Repair

  • Start the engine and let it idle for 10–20 seconds.
  • Listen for any loud hissing/whistling that could indicate the air box lid isn’t sealed.
  • Re-check that all clips are fully latched and the lid sits flush.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $60-$140 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $15-$35 (parts only)

You Save: $45-$105 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.4 hours.
