đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and switch the ignition OFF.
- Open the hood and let the engine cool down.
- Have a shop towel ready so nothing falls into the intake.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter box
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air box near the front/side of the engine bay.
- The engine air filter sits inside this box under a lid.
Step 2: Release the air box lid fasteners
- If your air box uses screws: use a Torx T25 driver to loosen/remove the lid screws.
- If your air box uses clips: use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the clips open.
- Don’t force it—clips snap if twisted.
Step 3: Lift the lid and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box lid up just enough to access the filter (you usually don’t need to remove the whole lid).
- Pull the old filter straight out by hand.
- Use a shop towel to cover the opening if you need to pause.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Use a shop towel to wipe out loose dust from the lower air box.
- Do not push dirt deeper into the intake tract.
Step 5: Install the new filter (correct direction)
- Place the new filter into the lower air box by hand.
- Make sure it sits flat and fully into the corners (the rubber edge should seal all the way around).
- If it won’t sit flat, it’s not aligned yet.
Step 6: Reinstall and secure the air box lid
- Lower the lid carefully so it doesn’t pinch or fold the filter.
- If equipped with screws: use a Torx T25 driver to tighten the screws snugly (do not overtighten into plastic).
- If equipped with clips: press the clips closed by hand; use a flathead screwdriver only if needed to help seat them.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 15–30 seconds.
- Listen for whistling/hissing that could indicate the air box lid isn’t fully sealed.
- Do a quick visual check that all screws/clips are fully secured.
