šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter housing
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to find the black plastic air box on the passenger side of the engine bay.
- The air box is connected to a large intake tube going toward the engine.
Step 2: Release the air box cover
- Unclip the metal retaining clips on the air box cover by hand (use nitrile gloves for grip).
- If your air box uses screws or a clamp instead of clips, use a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet to loosen them.
- Donāt unplug sensors unless you must.
Step 3: Open the air box and remove the old filter
- Lift the air box lid up enough to access the filter (you usually donāt need to remove the whole lid).
- Pull the old filter straight out.
- Use a flashlight to check the bottom of the air box for leaves or heavy dirt; wipe it out with a clean rag (donāt let debris fall into the intake tube).
Step 4: Install the new air filter
- Insert the new filter into the air box in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filterās rubber seal sits flat all the way around (no corners folded).
Step 5: Close and secure the air box
- Lower the air box lid fully so it seats evenly.
- Reinstall/retighten fasteners using the Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with 1/4" ratchet (snug, not over-tight).
- Snap the metal clips back into place by hand.
ā After Repair
- Start your Pathfinder and let it idle for 30 seconds.
- Listen for any loud hissing/whistling that could indicate the air box lid isnāt sealed.
