⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Do this with the engine OFF and cool to avoid burns.
- ⚠️ Don’t drop dirt or leaves into the intake tube/air box.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this on your Civic.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, turn the engine off, and open the hood.
- Let the engine bay cool for a few minutes if you just drove.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air cleaner box
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air box on the driver-side of the engine bay (it’s connected to the intake tube going to the engine).
Step 2: Open the air cleaner box
- Release the metal retaining clips on the air box by hand (use nitrile gloves for grip).
- If the cover feels stuck, gently wiggle it—don’t force it.
- Tip: Watch how the cover sits before lifting.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Lift the filter straight out by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look inside the lower air box for leaves or dirt.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Wipe the sealing edge and inside lip with a clean shop towel.
- Don’t push debris into the intake opening.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the lower air box by hand.
- Make sure it sits flat and fully inside the track/groove all the way around.
- Tip: If it won’t sit flat, it’s misaligned.
Step 6: Close and secure the air cleaner box
- Reposition the air box cover by hand so it sits evenly.
- Snap all retaining clips back into place by hand until they fully latch.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10–15 seconds.
- Listen for any hissing/whistling (a sign the air box isn’t sealed).
- Recheck that all clips are fully latched and the cover is evenly seated.
