🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the air box
- Locate the black plastic air filter box near the front of the engine bay.
- Use the flat-blade screwdriver if needed to gently release any retaining clips.
- Some covers use only clips, so no screws may be present.
Step 2: Remove the air box cover
- Unclip the air box cover and lift it carefully.
- Do not force the cover.
- If the intake tube restricts movement, use the trim clip tool (specialty) to help free the cover tabs without breaking them.
Step 3: Remove the old filter
- Lift the old engine air filter straight out of the air box.
- Keep the opening covered while the filter is out to prevent dirt from entering the intake.
Step 4: Clean the air box
- Use a clean cloth or vacuum to remove loose dirt from the air box.
- Do not use compressed air.
- Check that no leaves or debris are sitting in the bottom of the housing.
Step 5: Install the new filter
- Place the new engine air filter into the air box in the same direction as the old one.
- Make sure the seal sits flat all the way around.
- The filter should not be pinched or folded.
Step 6: Reinstall the air box cover
- Set the cover back on the air box using the flat-blade screwdriver only if a clip needs gentle help.
- Press the clips down until they lock in place.
- Make sure the cover is fully seated before closing the hood.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and listen for any unusual intake noise.
- Check that the air box cover is sealed properly.
- Close the hood securely.
