🔧 Enclave - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Your Enclave’s engine air filter keeps dirt and dust out of the engine. Replacing it helps maintain smooth performance and fuel economy, and it’s one of the easiest maintenance jobs you can do.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 10-20 minutes
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the engine cool first; the area can be hot.
- ⚠️ Keep fingers clear when snapping clips closed.
- ⚠️ Do not start the engine with the air box open.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Flashlight
- Flathead screwdriver
- 8mm socket
- 1/4" drive ratchet
- 6" socket extension

- Engine air filter - Qty: 1
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the engine off and remove the key/fob from the vehicle area.
- Open the hood and use a flashlight so you can see the air box edges clearly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the engine air filter housing
- Use a flashlight and find the black plastic air box connected to the large intake tube.
- Look for either metal/plastic clips around the edge or a few 8mm screws holding the lid down.
Step 2: Open the air box
- If yours has clips: pop the clips open by hand, or gently pry with a flathead screwdriver if they’re stiff.
- If yours has screws: use an 8mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet and 6" extension to loosen/remove the screws.
- Lift the lid straight up just enough to pull the filter out. Don’t force the lid.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the filter straight out by hand.
- Take a quick look at how it sits (which side faces up). The new one must go the same way.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Use a clean shop towel to wipe out loose dust/debris inside the lower half of the air box.
- Wipe the rim where the filter seals so the new filter can sit flat.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the lower air box by hand.
- Make sure it sits fully down in the tray and the edges are not folded or pinched.
Step 6: Close and secure the air box
- Lower the lid back into position by hand and align all edges.
- If equipped with clips: snap each clip closed by hand.
- If equipped with screws: tighten using the 8mm socket and 1/4" ratchet until snug. Just snug—don’t strip plastic.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10-20 seconds.
- Listen for a loud hissing/whistling sound (a sign the air box lid isn’t sealed).
- Do a quick visual check that every clip/screw is fully secured.
