🔧 TITAN - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Your TITAN’s engine air filter keeps dust and debris out of the engine. Replacing it restores proper airflow, helps performance, and can improve fuel economy if the old filter is dirty.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the engine off and let the intake area cool for 10-15 minutes.
- ⚠️ Keep dirt out of the open air box and intake tube.
- ⚠️ Do not use compressed air to “clean” a paper filter; replace it.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Flat-blade screwdriver

- Engine air filter - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and locate the air filter box (black plastic box connected to the intake tube).
- Have a clean microfiber towel ready so you can wipe the air box sealing surface.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter housing
- Use a flashlight to find the air filter box on the intake tube near the front of the engine bay.
- Look for metal clips or small bolts around the air box lid.
Step 2: Open the air box
- If your air box uses clips: release them by hand; if they’re tight, gently pry with a flat-blade screwdriver.
- If your air box uses bolts: loosen and remove them with an 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Lift the lid up enough to remove the filter. Don’t force the intake tube.
Step 3: Remove the old filter
- Pull the filter straight out of the air box by hand.
- Check the bottom of the air box for leaves/sand.
Step 4: Clean the air box sealing surface
- Wipe the inside lip where the filter seals using a clean microfiber towel.
- If there’s loose debris, lift it out carefully with the towel so it doesn’t fall into the intake.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Compare the new filter to the old one to confirm the same size and shape.
- Place the new filter into the air box in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure it sits flat all the way around; no corners should be folded.
Step 6: Close and secure the air box
- Lower the lid back into place and confirm the lid seats evenly.
- Reinstall bolts with an 8mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet, or snap the clips back on by hand.
- If the lid won’t sit flat, the filter isn’t seated.
Step 7: Final visual check
- Use a flashlight to check the lid gap all the way around—there should be no obvious openings.
- Remove tools and the old filter from the engine bay.
âś… After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 15-30 seconds.
- Listen for a loud hissing/whistling noise (can mean the air box isn’t sealed).
- If the engine idles rough right after, recheck that the lid is fully clipped/bolted and the filter is seated correctly.
