🔧 F-250 Super Duty - Engine Air Filter Replacement

⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Work on a cool engine so you don’t burn your hands.
- ⚠️ Keep dirt and leaves out of the open air box and intake tube.
- ⚠️ Do not start the engine with the filter removed.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and shut the engine off.
- Open the hood and let the engine bay cool for 10–15 minutes if it was running.
- Locate the air filter box (a black plastic box on the passenger-side of the engine bay with a large intake tube coming off it).
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Open the air filter box
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Find the metal retaining clips around the edge of the air filter box lid.
- Unclip each retaining clip by hand; if a clip is stubborn, gently pry with a flathead screwdriver.
- Lift the air box lid enough to remove the filter. Don’t yank on any hoses.
Step 2: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the old filter straight up and out by hand.
- Use a flashlight to look inside the lower half of the air box for leaves, sand, or bugs.
Step 3: Clean the air box (quick and safe)
- Use a shop vacuum to vacuum debris out of the lower air box.
- Wipe the sealing edge (where the filter gasket sits) with a clean microfiber towel.
- Do not spray cleaner into the intake.
Step 4: Install the new air filter
- Place the new engine air filter into the lower air box the same way the old one came out.
- Make sure it sits fully flat and the rubber gasket seals all the way around.
Step 5: Close and latch the air filter box
- Lower the air box lid into place by hand, making sure it’s aligned evenly.
- Snap all retaining clips back on by hand.
- Do a quick visual check that the lid is fully seated all around (no gaps).
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 15–30 seconds.
- Listen for any whistling/hissing that could indicate the air box lid isn’t clipped down evenly.
- Take a short test drive and re-check the clips if anything sounds unusual.
