🔧 Engine Air Filter - Replacement

Your air filter sits inside the air box under the hood. Replacing it keeps dirt out of the engine and helps maintain smooth airflow.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Work with the engine fully off and cool.
  • Keep loose clothing and hair away from the air box area.
  • No battery disconnect is required for this job.
  • Do not drop dirt into the intake opening.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Mechanic gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

  • Engine air filter - Qty: 1

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and let the engine cool if it was recently running.
  • Make sure the new filter matches the old one before installing it.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the air box

  • Open the hood and locate the air box on top of the engine bay.
  • Use your hands to release the retaining clips on the air box lid.
  • If a clip is tight, use a small flathead screwdriver carefully to help pop it free.

Step 2: Remove the old filter

  • Lift the air box lid enough to access the filter.
  • Pull the old engine air filter straight out by hand.
  • Check the air box for leaves, dirt, or debris and wipe it clean with a dry cloth if needed.

Step 3: Install the new filter

  • Place the new engine air filter into the air box the same way the old one sat.
  • Make sure the filter edge seals all the way around.
  • Do not force it.

Step 4: Close and secure the air box

  • Lower the air box lid back into place.
  • Use your hands to snap all retaining clips back on.
  • Check that the lid is fully seated and not pinching the filter.

✅ After Repair

  • Start the engine and listen for any unusual air leaks or whistling sounds.
  • Make sure the air box lid is fully latched on all sides.
  • Inspect the old filter to see how dirty it was.
