🔧 Sedona - Engine Air Filter Replacement
Your A4—
Assumption: Your Sedona uses the standard airbox filter in the engine bay (no aftermarket intake).
You’ll be opening the air filter box (airbox), removing the old filter, cleaning out any debris, and installing a new filter with the correct orientation. A clean air filter helps airflow, fuel economy, and protects the engine from dirt.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Work on a cool engine to avoid burns.
- ⚠️ Keep tools and fingers away from moving parts if the engine is running (it should be off for this job).
- ⚠️ Do not drop debris into the intake tube/airbox.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Set the parking brake and turn the engine off.
- Open the hood and let the engine cool for 10-20 minutes if it was just running.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter box (airbox)
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic box connected to the large intake tube (the tube that brings air to the engine).
- The airbox is usually near the front/side of the engine bay.
Step 2: Open the airbox lid
- If your airbox uses metal clips, release them by hand; if needed, gently pry with a flathead screwdriver.
- If your airbox uses screws/bolts, loosen them using a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 3/8" drive ratchet.
- Lift the airbox lid just enough to remove the filter. Do not yank on any attached hoses.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Pull the filter straight out.
- Use a flashlight to look inside the lower airbox for leaves, sand, or bugs.
Step 4: Clean the airbox sealing surface
- Use a shop towel to wipe out loose debris in the lower airbox.
- Wipe the rim where the filter seals (this helps prevent unfiltered air leaks).
- Do not push dirt into the intake opening.
Step 5: Install the new air filter correctly
- Place the new filter into the lower airbox the same way the old one came out.
- Make sure it sits flat and fully in the groove all the way around.
- If the filter has an airflow arrow, point it toward the engine (toward the intake tube).
- If it won’t sit flat, it’s not aligned.
Step 6: Close and secure the airbox
- Lower the lid carefully so it doesn’t pinch the filter.
- Re-latch the clips by hand, or tighten fasteners using a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 3/8" drive ratchet.
- Tighten snug only—do not over-tighten plastic housings.
Step 7: Quick final check
- Use a flashlight to confirm the airbox lid is fully seated on all sides.
- Remove tools and rags from the engine bay.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 20-30 seconds.
- Listen for a hissing/whistling sound (can mean the airbox isn’t sealed).
- If you hear a leak, shut the engine off and re-check that the filter is seated and the clips/fasteners are tight.
