š Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the engine off and let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter box
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic air filter box (air cleaner housing) connected to the large intake tube going toward the engine.
Step 2: Release the air box cover
- Release the metal clips by hand.
- If your air box uses screws instead of clips, loosen them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver until the cover is free.
- Donāt force itārecheck for a hidden clip.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Lift the air box cover just enough to access the filter.
- Pull the filter straight out by hand and note how it sits in the box (which side faces up).
Step 4: Clean the sealing surface
- Use a flashlight to inspect the bottom of the air box for leaves or dirt.
- Wipe out loose debris by hand (with nitrile gloves on). Make sure the rim where the filter seals is clean.
- Good seal = clean air into the engine.
Step 5: Install the new air filter
- Place the new filter into the air box by hand.
- Make sure it sits fully down and evenly all the way around (no corners folded).
Step 6: Refit and secure the air box cover
- Close the cover and ensure it lines up with the lower housing.
- Snap the clips back on by hand.
- If equipped with screws, snug them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver (do not overtighten).
ā After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10-20 seconds.
- Listen for any hissing/whistling that could indicate the air box cover isnāt sealed.
- Recheck the clips/screws and make sure the intake tube is still seated properly.
