📋 Before You Begin
- Park on a level surface and shift to Park.
- Turn the engine off and open the hood.
- Have a flashlight ready so you can clearly see the airbox latches.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the air filter housing (airbox)
- Use a flashlight to find the black plastic airbox near the front/side of the engine bay.
- The air filter sits inside this box, and it’s held closed by metal clips (spring latches).
Step 2: Unclip the airbox cover
- Use nitrile gloves for grip and to keep dirt off the new filter.
- Release the airbox metal clips by pulling them outward/down until they pop free.
- Lift the airbox lid just enough to access the filter. Don’t force the lid upward.
Step 3: Remove the old air filter
- Lift the filter straight out using your gloved hands.
- Use a shop towel to wipe out loose dust from the bottom of the airbox.
- Do not drop dirt into the intake tube.
Step 4: Install the new air filter correctly
- Place the new filter into the lower airbox tray in the same orientation as the old one.
- Make sure the filter sits flat and fully seated all the way around the edges.
- If the filter has a rubber sealing edge, that edge must sit evenly against the airbox all around.
Step 5: Close and re-clip the airbox
- Lower the airbox lid back into place so the edges align evenly.
- Snap each metal clip back on by hand until fully latched.
- Do a quick visual check that the lid isn’t pinching the filter.
✅ After Repair
- Start the engine and let it idle for 10–20 seconds.
- Listen for any loud hissing/whistling (can mean the airbox isn’t fully clipped).
- Re-check that all airbox clips are fully latched.
